My recommendation for all newbies and neophyte wavers: Go to the barbershop and get a professional haircut. If you can afford a professional haircut, get one. It will help you maintain and develop your wave pattern better than cutting your own hair.

@ wave connection- is there much of a diff between a 1.5 and a 2 guard? Cuz i believe my barber said he cutz wit a 1.5 and when he does it takes a minute for my back to wave up like it was. I just wanted to know what guard i shuld ask him to up to
thers a big diff between a 1.5 and a 2.. next time i cut my joints imma go to a 2.5 cuz i think a 2 is even to low for me now 1.5 Guard Cut 2 Guard Cut

The difference between a 2 and an 1.5 guard is that the 1.5 guard cuts your hair closer. If you're having trouble with your hair waving up after using a 1.5 guard, and your waves are trained, then you've cut your hair past its minimum wave length. To eliminate this problem, have your barber use a higher number guard. In your instance, it would be a 2 guard and up.

thnx @ LDizl- my hair looks like your 2 guard picture but my barber said he was using a 1.5. @ wave cnnctn- wen i go today ima ask em to bump up to a 2. Is is possible that my hair looks different because he cuts against the grain?
Sounds good. The only other suggestion I would make would be to get your hair cut wtg. In the early stages of waving, your hair is more receptive to maintaining its base wave pattern when it's cut in the same direction as the grain.

I used to cut my own hair as well but gettin it done by the pro's is even better. I only line myself up and give myself a taper from time to time. As great a barber as my barber is he cant taper sh*t. He had me with fade's, I hate fade's, but anyways Meji it is a learning process take ya time with it and be diligent.
