    Posted: September 06 2007 at 6:29am
Hey,
I want to buy some clip in extensions for the first time.
I am a complete newbie to extensions, i have no idea what to go for, all i know is i definately want clip in extensions. Probably around 16 - 18 inches long. Confused

So far, i have ordered a colour ring from one website to try and see what i would get. My hair is not all one colour, i have higlights so i would need a mix. I think i have matched my hair to two of the colours, but it is quite difficult to see from the small samples i have.

Where is the best place to order clip in extensions from?
Also, what do the mixed sets look like, does anyone have any pictures so i can see how often the highlights are throughout the hair? (i dont have bold streaky highlights, it is all mixed in)

I have heard some people buy half head sets, full head sets, or some people buy a couple of one peice sets. What is the best thing to do?

I hope i have made sense and i can get some advice,
i dont want to spend a fortune and find i have bought the wrong thing!!

Thanks for your time
Hope you can help me Smile

Hey Miss_sixty! There are several options. You can make them yourself, it's not difficult at all, and that way you get the most for your money. You can also buy a set from the many different places. I've never tried the Jessica Simpson clip ins but it looks like it gives great volume and length. I would go for the human hair version. I don't know the price but if you want to keep using it for more than a month or two then get the human hair version.

Is this for one day/night or every day?

If you make them yourself you will get more and spend less. Also you can pick whichever hair you want and measure your head so it fits perfectly. With clip ins, sine you don't wash them with your own hair you don't have to wash them as often so you don't need to get the best best hair out there.

Hey Miss Sixty!

I bought my clip ins from The Hair Shop, in LA.  Thier website is http://www.hairpiece.com/ .  My hair is highlighted as well, so I got the 7pc. clip on set for around $100 and its ALOT of hair. It's all human hair. You can wear just one piece or wear all seven. Links:
This is the set I got: http://www.hairpiece.com/product.asp?pf_id=A7IFSW16 I got color 18/22 which looked like a dark blonde with lowlights. I definately could have gone lighter though.  Whatever you do, I would drop them off at a salon and have them highlight it to match your hair if you want it perfectly matched.  It cost me $30 to do that and I just dropped it off in the morning and picked it up in the afternoon. Easy and not very expensive, and well worth it.
DO NOT get the Jessica Simpson clip ins.  I know a few girls that have them and they stick out like a sore thumb IMO...and I would never pay over $100 for synthetic hair when you can get real human hair that you can dye and curl/flat iron, etc for the same price.
I have also bought wefts from them, sewed 3 together, sewed clips to them and made my own clip ins.  I took them to the salon when I had my hair highlighted and they highlighted the extensions as well so it would match perfectly. Voila! - very easy.

Hope this helps! :)

The hair you got from thehairshop is either their 101 or 909? I wouldn't color or dye that hair. It doesn't last more than a few months w/o any further processing out of the package.

I made my own clip ins with the 909 hair but I wouldn't even bother if I were to do it again. It costs just as much as bohyme and bohyme lasts a lot longer and it's nicer hair.

Edit to add:
If I were to want clip ins that had mixed colors and would last a long time I would do a custom order either handtied or machine wefts from Extensions Plus and they'll even sew the clips on for you. That way if you order handtied you can tell them how thick the weft should be and if you do machine wefts they will sew as many wefts together as you want for about $10/oz.

Glamourhair.com also sells human hair clip in's. Although, the shipping is slow.

Sultryhair.com also sells human hair clip in's that are made from Indian hair.  That hair can be dyed and is real human hair.

hisandher.com also sell's human hair clip in's and their shipping is fast.

hairconspiracy.com also sell's human hair clip in's. Although I have not tried them. Their site looks good and the hair looks good as well.

right

so is it not a good idea to buy the mixed sets you can get?

its really difficult to tell whether it would match overall from the small samples i have from a colour ring, my highlights are all mixed in (to look natural) but the hair doesnt look all one colour then either,
i dont want to end up with extensions that are obviously dissimilar to my own hair.

i do want remy human hair clip ins.

also, where is good to get hair from that can be coloured if wrong?

the only website i have seen colours i think will match is wickedco but if i had to return them its going to cost a bit in shipping etc.
i really dont know what to do.

Thanks for the help ive recieved so far.

Smile

P.s. im from the UK

I tried thishttp://www.hisandher.com/pimg/clip-3l-14a(f&b)-r.jpgfrom His and Her and although it really looked great, after
the first wash it was a total nest. I couldn't do anything with it.
I brought it back and they told me there wasn't anything they could
do for me. This was the lady -->Big%20smile and this was me -->furious

Miss_sixty, As for color matching, it's hard to do it when you're ordering over the internet. If  you really want to be sure then buy a color ring from the company you'll buy the set from.

I know if you send a sample to Extensions Plus they can match it for you but you'll be spending a lot more money on the hair from them but it will last a lot longer.

i did get a colour ring from one company, but they were out of stock of the hair colours i think will match, im finding it very hard to be sure if it will match... not just the colour, but the texture. i suppose i am going to have to take a risk at some point.

do you have hair from extensions plus then?

x

p.s.
what do you think of wickedco's hair extensions?

miss_sixty, what texture is your hair?
If it's not silky straight then yes, it's not so easy to match your texture.

I was just at Extensions Plus yesterday. They have Italian hair that will
make you want to cry (for happiness). It's really really nice but really really
expensive....that's the catch. But it's not coated and will last and last. I also looked at their zig zag Indian hair, aka zz. That probably would be more my texture, wavy/curly but wasn't as melt in your hands as the Italian. The zz hair comes machine wefted and it's not wefted at EP. The Italian hair I saw was handtied.  The had several wefts, all different thicknesses. You can order it as thick as you want and you can mix whatever colors you want. One weft I saw was about 8" wide and had blond on the first two inches of the weft then brown for about 4" and then the blond for the remaining two inches. The hair was probably 11" long and on that 8" wide weft was about 2oz of hair.

As Malibu mentioned, I am the owner of wickedhairco.com. If you need some samples for color matching, or, if you would like to send us a sample / swath of your own hair, I'll be happy to help you match the color. I can also make custom sets if needed. Please just send me an email at info@wickedhairco.com.
Are you looking for a full set? Or just some sections?

MM, im not sure, it prob would be classed as silky straight...altho its not that silky, i do straighten it though and am happy to straighten extensions too as long as they match!

I have looked at the extension plus website and have seen the different types of hair you have mentioned, I am so new to this i haven't a clue what to look for. I have emailed extensions plus to see if they will do clip ins and i am now waiting for a response.

So you would say the italian hair is the best?

Thanks for your help.
