I just had my Great Lengths extensions removed and want to share my experience. Before having them put in, I freaked out after reading all of the horror stories about Great Lengths on this site. However, I went ahead with it because I'd had my hair chopped off a couple of months ago and really wanted long hair.
Long story short- I really enjoyed the extensions. They looked so natural and had more of that soft wave and more body than my real hair. I had so much fun with them. Granted, they weren't as soft or fine as my natural hair, but they looked amazing. (Plus, my natural hair is pretty fine and silky so I guess that's an infair comparison) I had them taken out after 2 months just because I'm really really overprotective and wanted to make sure my hair wasn't being damaged. Lo and behold, my hair is exactly the same as it was when the extensions were put in- not damaged at ALL!
My stylist told me a lot of people think they lose a lof of their hair or damage it with GL just because they're used to having so much hair with the extensions. However, I think it also has to do a LOT with the stylist, and I had an amazing, amazing stylist. If you have a bad Great Lengths technician put in and remove the extensions, I can totally see how they could really f**k up your hair.

**NOTE: if you live anywhere near the Philadelphia/King of Prussia area or will visit, and want an amazing GL technicican, email me at katiekoeblitz@gmail.com and I'll give you her contact info. She used to work on celebs in LA until she moved her (I was skeptical of that until I had my own extensions put in and removed by her, and she did such an amazing job.) I'm not working for her or anything, I'm not promoting her, I just had an amazing experience and i want you guys to also!

Anyway, that's my experience. I hear what people are saying- the quality of the hair might be in a bit of a slump. I usually used both leave in conditioner and detangler to get them to cooperate- but once they were dry/styled they really looked amazing!

I think some of the disasters we have heard of concerning GL has to do with incompetent tech installing them and complete lack of maintenance and care. 2 months of wear would not cause any damage. I wore GL for a speck over 3 months and on removal had only very minimal damage and breakage on the fine hairs behind my ears so that was no problem and just grew back out.

Katie- it is so nice to hear some good feedback about GL. I totally agree with you that it really depends on care and maintenance of the wearer as well as the person putting them in and removing them. If both are really carefull, you shouldn't have any damage. Thanks for your great story.

barmy  Yay! I am so glad you enjoyed the GL.
We have had so many sad stories about GL lately, it is so good to hear that someone had a well done install and a great experience.
Thank you for sharing!
And I think Krimsa is exactly right. Though GL is overpriced, IMO, I think the installation has a lot to do with some of the poor experiences that many people have had with GL.

Hello! For the hair I believe it was around $400 for 3 bundles of 20" hair. She gave my a discount for the application and it actually was surprisingly affordable!

Hi everyone.

So I want longer hair, and I was wondering which was better- hair supplement vitamins or hair extensions? On price and on quality and all that good stuff- which would you say is better?

Hair vitamins will help. You can also eat certain foods high in protein. You will notice your hair growing a bit more and your nails also. Hair is soft keratin and nails hard. I used to drink shakes in the morning that seemed to help my hair. I noticed less breakage and I could see a difference in glossiness.

However, if your hair is thin and fine naturally, supplements will help but you wont suddenly wake up in the morning with a thick, lush head of hair. Unfortunately the amount and texture of hair that we are born with won’t change. As we age, hair can thin out naturally.

Extensions can be a fix and give you length and volume but there are MANY different types of hair on the market and also several different ways to attach extensions. You need to study and do some research first.
