Musings on the ACM Awards:

Long blonde hair is in (with, in most cases, help from extensions, Miss Clairol, or both, of course).  All 5 of the nominees for best female vocalist  were blondes, as were many of the presenters and perfomers.  Julianne Hough, Lee Ann Womack, Miranda Lambert, Kellie Pickler, LeAnn Rimes, Hillary Scott--the list went on and on.

The styles may have been a little dated by some standards--Texas hair was definitely in evidence--but hey, it's country music, where  big hair is almost de rigueur.    And it's nice to see attendees at awards shows actually looking glamorous.  There were far fewer of the demented hairdresser styles  or the  "I just ran my fingers through it in the limo on the way over" looks.

Special mention goes to:

--Taylor Swift, who really makes the most of her naturally curly hair.  The swept back style on the red carpet was her best look of the evening.

--Carrie Underwood for looking especially glam, though her  outfits probably drew more attention than her tresses (especially that red princess number and the short baby doll).

Only brunettes I recall seeing were Miley Cyrus and Martina McBride, both looking great.   Miley, Martina and Carrie are all great examples of gals who took a fairly basic hairstyle and just made it look fabulous.

Much as I like Reba McEntire (the only redhead of the evening), I don't think the slightly below shoulder length flip is her best look.

Thumbs down for the evening:

--Nicole Kidman--a no style, fried mess.

--Jennifer Nettles--didn't know you could get the bedhead look out of a french braid.

--Kelly Pickler's extensions weren't so bad, but please, honey, do something about the roots.

All in all, though, lots of fun to watch, especially the real excitement from the winners.  If Carrie Underwood had still been wearing that red number when she won entertainer of the year, she would have floated off the stage.

Great report Durango, thanks.  I totally agree with you as I made many of the same observations.  The only thing I'd disagree on is Kellie Pickler; I think that is her true length.  Why would you extend your hair to that awkward length?

Carrie Underwood is truly the most beautiful woman on the planet.  Just had to get that off my chest.

Thanks, Hawg.

I'll second the motion on Carrie Underwood.  Not only that,  she has the talent to go with the looks.

On Kellie Pickler--I agree it's an awkward length, but I seem to remember her with much shorter hair recently so assumed it had to be extensions.  As for why, the same question could be asked of the color--why would you show up at one of the biggest events in your industry badly in need of a root touchup?

Kellie is quirky; and I read somewhere that dark roots are in.  I truly hope that it's a short lived trend.  All the other blondes looked fantastic.
