QuoteReplyTopic: Spit-ender Product Review! Posted: August 14 2003 at 8:15pm
I finally got my split-ender from Revo. The lowdown: don't waste your money! It's too good to be true!
I have bra-strap length straight brown hair. It is of medium thickness. I have quite a bit of split ends from where I'm growing out layers, so when I heard about the split-ender I was pretty intrigued. My sister also has similar hair, but hers is quite a bit longer.
How it works is with tension. Your hair goes between two comb-like things and when the hair passes through the first comb it's supposed to spring up and be cut by a rotating blade that spins in the middle of the combs. (Does this make any sense?) So it doesn't really determine if an end is split or not, it's supposed to cut the very end of every hair.
My sister and I tried it a variety of ways, but it never seemed to trim all the hair. You can take the end off to clean it. After completing almost half of my sister's head I looked inside the hair collection area, and there were hardly any hairs at all! It also was cutting off various lengths from 1/32" to 1/8" up to as much as 1/4".
If you go the official split-ender site, it says that it's "only two easy payments of $29.99". What isn't so easy to see is that the shipping is $19.99! And it takes 6-8 weeks to get the product! They offer a guarantee so you can return it, but I'm sure it doesn't include the outrageous shipping fee. So Revo is probably making about $15 off of each one, and it's so cheaply made it probably doesn't cost more that pennies to produce. Revo will sell millions of these, have most of them returned, and still make a killing because of inflated shipping costs.

thanks holly. to bad it didn't work i knew vit was to good to be true. at least you had the courge to try it maybe your sister didn't have to many split ends?
I have tons of split ends in two specific parts of my hair--and it didn't make any difference. The instruction booklet says to use it every 2-3 weeks, but if you're using it that much, and it cuts off 1/8" every time, you could easily end up cutting up to an 1" off your hair! So I guess eventually with enough repeated use it would get the split ends, but I'd rather go to my stylist & have her cut an 1" off my hair. At least that way I'd know it would be even! It's advertised as being good for layered hair, and that's what caught my eye. My hairdresser can't get all the split ends off the parts of the layers that I'm growing without really cutting a lot off of them. So I was really hoping that the split-ender would do that for me. I guess I'm back to the seek & destroy method with my little scissors! =)
