As you can tell I'm new to the board but I would love to join the challenge. Hope its not too late. My hair type is a 3a/b and its relaxed. I don't have a set routine for my hair but I'm trying to work on it. I have stopped using grease so thats one step in the right direction, I want to get to a set routine but I'm afraid of becoming a product junkie.

I use Pantene ProV anti dandruff shampoo and Pantene ProV Condtioner(specific for women of color.) As a deep conitioner I use Motions CPR.  I then either blow dry or sit under my dryer and then flat iron using Kemi Oil. I would like to wash more than once or twice a week but I'm afraid of over drying my hair. I get relaxers every 8-10 weeks and i get my ends trimmed at this time also.

I have had some major breaking at the crown of my head due to my hair dresser coloring my hair and taking it to high( it was very very blonde, bright yellow). So since all that has taken place I have been very careful and cautious with it. When it broke off it was about a half inch long, but now it has since grown and is about 4 inches. It is growing back very fast I might add. (YEAH!!) The rest of my hair has been rinsed back to my natural color, or as close as possible so you can't even tell where the breaking has occured. So other then at the very top of my hair the rest of it it about 3 inches from my bra strap which is my short term goal. My long term goal is to maintain that length while allowing my crown to catch up. ANY and ALL suggestions welcome.

Welcome to the challenge and to the forum Neekah...I'm glad to see that you  are on your way. Have you tried washing your hair more than once a week...I know anti dandruff shampoo can be drying...so you can try washing with only conditioner once a week and the next wash during that week try the shampoo (if need be) that way you clarify and you get more than one wash in at a time.   Also...breakage may also be due to the amount of heat you use. How often do you wash, blow dry and then flat iron, have you tried air drying or (partial air dry and finish with a blow dry on low heat)?  Ok you don't have to answer these, just questions to ask yourself and think about.

Glad you are here with us.

I hope you feel better Cebnn.

Lately I been trying all the samples I recieved from the gathering. Alot of Kenra care...today I washed and finished off with a conditioner creme hairdress...at first my hair felt oily but i took the braids down and decided to wear a puff today. It's been raining and I decided to let the water do its work.

But for the pass 2 weeks I been washing my conditioner-wash-conditioner method and then braid up my hair 5-6 big braids on each side and then pin them up. I call it my standby hair style...but I been getting alot of compliments on them.  Thats all for me...i plan on doing my pinned braids tomorrow until Monday the 4th...i stretched my hair and my sides are to the top of my armpit.

This is our update! It's great to see more ladies joining each month. I'd like to stress that although this is a Grow-Out challenge, it is also a healthy hair challenge. Our length grows because of the state of health it is in. If your hair is really damaged in the beginning, don't worry! We we all there at some point. By restoring health back to your hair, it will flourish.

Since I'm here, I'll update:

I had a heat setback last week and straightened my hair. I was trying to avoid using it,but I still haven't mastered great styles when I'm 8 weeks post with tons of new growth. I was debating whether or not to relax next week before my art show since I'll be outside in this drought all day long Saturday and Sunday.

I stopped using my MSM for the month. I did an intestinal cleanse for 3 weeks and I was sick aferwards so I didn't want to add anything to the mix. It's amazing the change I noticed when I stopped taking it! I was shedding like crazy the week after I stopped. Thankfully, I started back this week and everything is fine.

I've been using Aubrey Organics once a week and I still love it! It's made my hair the softest it's every been. But I have lots of newgrowth and I am about 9 weeks post right now. I would like to have it neat and relaxed for my first art show, but I'm not sure if I should or not. I've probably gained an inch and I'm just about halfway to brastrap length.

I don't have any new products added, but I plan on adding MTG after I relax so I can mark how much growth I get. I will also be putting another Henna treatment in my hair a week after I relax. I hope July is a better month!!

Congrats to everyone that's in the challenge!  Don't give up...it's hard sometimes not to be tempted to cut, but that's why it's a challenge!  Good luck.

Jumping on the bandwagon as well...running and reaching...sorry I'm late...

-11 months into transition, cut off about 5 inches 4 months in, then 1 inch trim every 8 weeks...last trim early May...trying to go 4 months

-3c type hair, wild, thick curls, sweeping shoulder when straight...goal: lower back

-shampoo every 2-3 weeks, co-wash every 2 weeks...I want to wash more often but not ready to handle all my hair yet

-2 cornrows 75% of the time and sick of em'

-Suave Humectant Shampoo and Conditioner, Aussie 3 min Miracle (just started that this week?, anyone notice long term results), Shea Butter, coconut oil, EVOO

-Blow Dry hair straight every 2-3 weeks in salon

-Gym 3-4X a week, GNC multiday, B-complex, addicted to sweets, esp fruity candies...my weakness

Welcome Silverrain80

My update: Ya'll my hair is going over board with the growth. I had not stretched it to its full potential but I did for the family gathering on the 4th of july.  Usually I braid my hair at night and let it air dry and then brush it out. This time I didn't have time to do all of that and so I dried it with the blow dryer. My hair in was passed my shoulders. But i wanted to wear my fro and I did (pulled back of course too hot for all that on your neck and forehead) with a flower to add the touch.

Anyways, I had a cousin who is 15 that wanted to wear her hair like that...she has very loose ringlets and she was upset that she didn't have my texture I told her her hair is beautiful the way it is and she felt better but still kept touching my hair.

This little girl who is related to me about 7-9 years old asked me if i was wearing weave and wanted to know how my hair looked under the fake hair. Most people there were wearing weave. I explained to her that it is my own hair and I grew it...She wanted to know why her hair didn't look like mine and I explained to her that it might look  like mine but right now she is wearing plaits and that  is the style her mother wanted her to have.

I wasn't exactly sure...I felt out of place since most of the relatives I never met but we live in the same city...thats why we have these events tho. Plus, I was the only person with a big fro/natural.

My guy cousin who grew his hair out and had it pressed as soon as he came out of the hospital...was threatening to wet my hair. I told him, i don't care I wear it small, medium, and big. Then he wanted to know why his hair didn't look like mine on the  july 4th.

(pictures will be coming up soon)

Hello Ladies,

My update:

I have decided to transition and although my hair is growing I am also slowly cutting it. I have been doing co-washes twice a week with Nexxus humectris and deep condition once a week with LeKair Cholestral.  I am trying different products to retain moisture and I have had success with ORS Olive oil hair lotion and I am waiting for a shipment of Shea butter. I usually cornrow the front and put the back in a very loose ponytail with a phony pony. I haven't measured the new growth, but I will let you know on my next update.

Stay Blessed.

Life is a journey, Enjoy the ride.

Welcome everyone! Cmesweet, I admire how much ur hair has grown! Good blessings w/ that and I can't wait 2 c those pics.

I might as well update too. Hair is still relaxed, going 2 get another touch-up in late August or early September. Hair is curly now, extremely thick not only at the new growth but the rest of it too. Length is past my shoulders, a little more than collarbone. Looks good, very healthy and soft. I've been drinking 1.5 liters of water daily. Messed up the last few days, lol, more soda instead. Keep forgetting 2 take my vitamin. For styles, wearing protectant buns/updos w/ bangs. Don't use heat, haven't used it for awhile. Wearing bangs to the side. That's about it! God bless everyone and happy growing!
1 more day until next touch-up

5 more months until bra-strap length

I just ordered my relaxer and I'll probably touch-up when it comes or the week after. My new growth is doing surprisingly well. I didn't realize I was at 11 weeks. I found a way to make my roots not so poufy. After I wash it I put a hat on and it dries without a huge puffy spot at top of my head. I've been wearing a ponytail a lot. Haven't used heat for a while. I've been diluting my shampoo.
Type: 3c/4a Natural
Current Length: 6"
Goal: Healthy, tip of nose /neck/shoulder length hair.
