I have an appointment to get my Great Lengths put in next week, and since reading all of these posts I am seriously reconsidering. I have long(ish), thick hair that I consider to be relatively healthy (lightly highlighted) and I am worried that my hair will not be able to withstand the stress of the extensions. Has ANYONE had a good experience with these? If taken care of properly will these still ruin my hair?? Also, please don't reply if you are just someone who wants to promote your product, I want real experiences from real women who have had this done. Thanks!

sorry, let me be a little more specific...I have read posts from people that initially love their great lengths, then are usually horrified when they have them removed, is there anyone who can say that this is a good procedure from application to removal??

Hi!

Well, I can certainly understand why you are so worried. I too had read posts and considered Great Lengths and after reading the stories I decided to proceed and get them. Well they look great when applied and thereforth after but, when removed there is some damage. I take excellent care of my hair, so much so my stylist always refers to what iI use on my hair to some of her clients and shows them pics of my hair. I had gorgeous healthy hair before Great Lengths. After, my ends were thin out and the hair was all around not healthy and thinning. Plus, once removed you cannot use the hair again! Which sucks because the procedure is so darn expensive!

So I waited a year and took my vitamins, took extreme care of my hair and got it's strength and health back and did some more research on extentions.

I came upon a website for Hairlocs and decided to call to get a stylist in my area NYC and found a few great stylists. All with awesome before and after pics. I also asked for references so I can call some of their clients and ask about their experiences etc. Everyone I called had nothing but, great experiences and the best part is you an re-use the hair for a very long time. Maintenance is minimal mine was every 3 months, the hair is fantastic. It's placed on your hair using mini soft metal clips and they match your hair color perfectly. My stylists wears them and her hair looks fabulous everyday. So I tried them and would never turn to any other type of hair extension again! I swear these are awesome. I've had mine for 6 months with absolutely no problem, no damage which was a HUGE concern of mine. My boyfriend loves them, and I get compliments by everyone whether in line at a store or out at a club, no one can tell they are not mine.

Hair extensions are good for people who will take the time and effort it takes to care for them. You can't expect to pay top dollar and forget about them. They take work and the best products, and absolutely no tugging, pulling and carefulness when brushing. It's an investment, like a brand new car, you have to baby it and it'll be good to you for a long time to come.

If you ahve any more questions just let me know I'll be happy to answer. By the way I have had the sewn in type too and no way jose would I ever do it again! Itchy, bulky, and too stressfull for my scalp that my hair thinned out way too much! I did in while in College and what a mistake!

Hope this helps.

I have a question about the hairlocs. Can you feel them if you run your fingers through your hair. I have been wanting to get extensions but I have heard that greta lengths and balmain are the only ones you can't feel at all. Someone please answer-thanks y'all. Also does anyone now a good hair extension artist in Houston Tx?

Hi,

Well I personally don't feel the Hairlocs, I forget its not my hair sometimes. I put my hair in a pony tail, up swept do, twist and nothing shows. I went for hairlocs because they looked the most natural to me at least. Everyone is different and has their own opinion on what extensions are best.

When you run your fingers through your hair yes you can feel the but, the same happen when I had Great Lengths. Remember its not your hair, its an attachment. In the begining you have to get used to it but, then you forget you even have them.

Hope this helps. Hopefully someone can let you know where you can find a stylist in your town.

Nelly

Thanks Nelly. I am looking into finding a hairstylist that uses the eurolocs system in Houston but so far no luck. Is Eurolocs about the same price as great lengths?

It should be a bit cheaper. But remember you can re-use the hair unlike Great Lengths.

i love great lengths. i do them(orange county CA area) and wear them. yes hair seems a little thin at the ends after removal- but after having them in for about 3 months a trim is really needed. most hair gets trimmed every 4-6 weeks. with great lengths it does not- so after removal a trim is needed!!!! also if removal is done right(example with the proper remover and enough patience and time) there is not much damage to the hair- i find it takes about 6 to 7 hours to put in the hair and about 4 to remove it. in 3 months time that is not bad esp. if you are used to getting a weave which needs to be redone about every 4 weeks. great length hair is not reusable but after 3 months of wear- most people would want new hair anyways. with great lengths yoy can swim in pools and oceans walk arouls with wet hair and it is not noticable- i have used the lord and cliff and found it to be cheap hair- and in the heat they slide out- the bonds are differant and do not hold up in hot weather- plus the lord and cliff hair tangled easy-

Hi Nelly,

I have had the Cinderella system for about two weeks now and I noticed that the quality of the hair seems nice and silky (black) when it was applied, but after a few washes, its quite frizzy and tangles all the time. What is the quality of your hairlocs extensions?

Hi There,

Well, honestly from having done both Great Lengths and the weave method. I found that overall Hairlocs hair is superior to any of the above. But, it also depends on the stylist and their honesty plus experience (experience with a particular methos counts for a lot of things)!! Many stylist try to pass their hair as either hairlocs or great lengths. But it can be bad hair meaning the cuticles don't face downward but, upward or the hair is coated with silicone or it's a mix of human hair and animal hair. All the above can be a reason why the hair has turned into such poor quality.
I'm not an expert so don't hold me to it.

Hairlocs, I've experienced no locs slipping out. The hair looks and feels the same after every wash as I wear them month to month. Actually better, only because I really take care of my hair and use Bumble & Bumble products and or Goldwell products. All of which are great on the hair. My hair still shines, still is full and looks great.

Smile it makes you look beautiful!

Words of advice if deciding on gl method,Always make sure you get the products(included with service)The products have a major part in how the extensions withhold and is designed to mantain the best condition of your extensions.(Always use them)Make sure your stylist gives you when getting your extensions, hair shampoo-conditioner-anti-tap water-and hair treatment. Here's the only site i could find that actually sells them. Also, make sure they give you on the day of service,The hair care maintenance packet. And follow the instructions carefully! Also~Always use a loopy extension hair brush from sally's hair salon. There is a site on here that sells mega hair brushes for a very good price...,Imo they are the best for extensions!I'm not sure how the sally's extension brushes are or how much they cost though, but they look like they do the job!www.haircandy.net www.peterlouissalon.com -search for great lengths NXT hair products.

Nelly! I'm looking for a great hairlocs stylist in NYC to do extensions on my for my wedding. Can you tell me who did your hairlocs? Please email me at billeedesigns@hotmail.com. Thanks so much!!!
also, i just started a thread asking for info on hairlocs and updos. The links really don't show when you pull your hair back or up? I want to do a variety of updos for my wedding but am worried that the links will show.
