I was wanting to update! I dont really have much to report. I got anoother trim.  Last time I got one wasn't too long ago. a month or two, but I could tell some areas were looking alot better at the ends then the rest. I was worried about loosing my length, but my hair looks so much better with my scraggly ends cut off. I will try to get some progress pics up in my album sometime this week. I will let you all know when that happens!. HHG To every one.

Rene-

when I used to get braids, the woman that did my hair always told me to wash my hair and condition like I normaly would, but wear a hair net I guess so the shampoo rinses easier or not too much of it gets in your hair or something, but I never had any problem. I would just do that and then tie it down to dry so they wouldn't look all fuzzy I dont know for sure if that will work w/ kinky twist. but I hope that was a little helpful

So i'm so late getting in here. Been having to work a lot of over time my car crapped out on me. It was breaking down every week for three weeks and i live 36 miles from my job. But anywho, because of all of the stress a small piece about the size of a nickle broke in the back of my head(my stress spot area- it has broken off before twice in that are in 1999 when i still had a perm). The rest of my hair is experiencing a growth/thickness spurt. I have been doing  daily scalp massages, moisturizing my scalp daily and doing daily co-washes and deep conditioning weekly. Once a week i pre-treat my hair with castor oil and sit under the dryer for 30 mins., shampoo in the shower, use a rinse-out conditioner, then apply my deep conditioner-cholesterol(i sit under the dryer again for 30 mins to an hour. I have added two new oils to my regimine- apricot kernel oil and wheatgerm oil and my hair loves them both. I think my breakage area is ok. I was able to stop the breakage after i started pre-treating my hair- my other pre-treatment method is using conditioner- adding two eggs, two tablespoons of castor oil, mixing well- applying a plastic cap and leaving it in for 2-3 hours. Oh and the good thing is no one can see the spot unless i show them because my hair is so thick and i believe i will have a full recovery of the hair lost.

Just wanted to check back in...i haven't been back here in a little while.

My hair has been growing alright, i'm noticing a bit more length, especially in the back.  Still natural, and still alternating between protective styles (2-strands and braids) one week and then braid and twist-outs the next.  i'm still averaging every two weeks for my deep condition and wash...(i can't get consistent with my weekly deep condition) but i've been good about applying daily leave-in.

i want to do more scalp massaging, becauses my hairline is still really thin as a result of wearing synthetic, tight braids for YEARS.  for those that do it, how long and how often do you massage?  and how long before you saw results?

Hey Savantrice,

I massage my scalp lightly, every other day for about 5 minutes or so.  I recently began doing this .  I am now monitoring my results.  I'll keep you informed.  Like you, my hairline is a bit thin.  Hopefully the massaging will help.

Checking in to say I don't really have that much to add.  The back of my hair is growing really fast in comparison with the other parts.  I can't figure out why.  After I first did the big chop, I would always trim the back constantly to keep it shorter than the front for a layered look.  Since I've stopped doing that, it's been growing out kinda fast.  I wish the front and sides would take a note.

I can't wait til next March gets here!

It's great to hear everyone is doinf so good. Sorry to hear about your car Carmeldiva but I'm glad you were able to get a new one! I already posted but I just wanted to say i'm experiencing a good amount of new growth on the top of my scalp. I'm trying to hang in there until the end of October for my next touch up.

Update: I got another touch-up today. My hair is close to armpit length now. I am a little disappointed because I expected it to be longer, but I guess it takes a lot of patience. Maybe by the end of the year I'll reach my goal. I purchased satin pillowcases so my hair should be pretty healthy. My regimen is the same and I'm still doing protective styles

Hi I am new to the board and I would like to join in as well.  I don't really know my hair type, but I can tell you ladies a little bit about my hair and maybe you can tell me!  It's about an 1" past my shoulders (I got a trim today), I relax about every 6 weeks, it's thin  it's a horrible color (dark brown with natural highlights).  Since it's thin, I don't use a lot of moisturizers because it gets weighed down so easily, but I know I need something because it is damaged.  When I comb my hair, it comes out in long strands, not just breaking at the ends.  What should I do?  What can I use to promote strength and thickness (it is growing ok)?  Currently, I alternate between DOO GROW and Pantene for black hair.  My goal length is just past bra length, but with thickness.  I plan to get those micro-braids next weekend as to not use any heat.  Does anyone think this will help?  Please any advise is definitely appreciated.  I know I'm just joining in the middle of the challenge, but if my hair is thick and healthy by March 2006, I'll be happy!  Be blessed, Ladies!!

Hi, I'm late to jump on the bandwagon as well but I'll join in for the last 7 months. Ideally by March 2006, I'd like to be somewhere between armpit and BSL which will officially be the longest that my hair has EVER been. I think the next 3 inches will be the most crucial. For me, my hair seems to stall around shoulder length but thanks to these hair forums I will PREVAIL!!! I currently co-wash a few times per week and have limited heat to about once per month (which is an act of futility because it is so humid here [NY] that my hair shrinks right back up).

Hair length: Measurements, I have NO idea. Overall, it's very uneven but I refuse to even it out until its grown to a decent length (I know, I'm being simpleminded right now). The back is about 1 1/2 - 2 inches or so past my shoulders, the sides are about an inch shorter than that (sides are uneven due to former excessive flat iron usage and I had to cut/trim WAY UP to remove all of the split ends). Front (bangs) are now to the tip of my nose.

My regimine:

Daily to weekly: Aphogee shampoo (once per week), just bought V05 Kiwi and Lime on a recommendation for co-washes, MTG (inconsistently), Surge, S-Curl, ORS Olive Oil, Salerm 21 (inconsistently), WGO. I just bought ORS Hair Mayo and put an egg in it yesterday and let sit for 2 hours. Don't know if I love it yet. The egg was a pain to wash out and I'm worried that it might have been protein overload cuz I did the Aphogee treatment last week...

Protein treatment (every 6-10 weeks, I'm lazy and hate doing it).

I think that covers everything. Sorry this was so long.

I'm going to try vitamin B5.  I use Pink relaxer; I like it a lot - it's the only relaxer I've used for more than six months and it actually still relaxes my hair!!!  I've decided to go back to Nioxin - I used that several years ago & it works very well.  It's very expensive, but I bought the line on eBay at a fraction of the cost.  The whole line would cost about $300 in the salon (about 5 products on average).  I paid less than $100 for 9 products!!  Next time I relax and trim, (sometimes around the end of September, I'll post you guys of my progress)!

Hi Honey!  It's a line of products strictly for thickening thinned, damaged hair and promoting growth (aren't most products claiming that now!!).  I guess it could be compared to Rogaine, but it doesn't take as long to work.  I think most of the line has Biotin in it, including the vitamins. Just to give you an idea, I used it some years ago, when I had this problem.  My hair sheds quite a bit certain times of the year, but after having my daughter last year, it's been excessive.  Nioxin (when used before) stopped the shedding almost completely and my hair get really thick.  Because of the cost and the location of the salon I was buying it from, I stopped using it.

It has this one bottle of stuff called "Follicle Booster".  It's smells sorta "pepperminty" and tingles a lot.  It encourages follicles to produce healthy new growth and is really supposed to be used when the shedding is almost to the balding stage.  The line comes in several different formulas - one for natural hair, one for chemically processed, another for severely damaged, etc.  I have faith in it because I've used it before, so I would recommend it!
