I had a similar problem with my first extensions. My first ever extensions were from www.dollylocks.com.
she sent me the hair after and it was 18" but she charged me for 24" hair. She charged me $400 for hair and it was so ratty I can't even tell you. The clearance bodywave I bought from hisandher.com was better.
That sucks. I actually know someone who goes to Dollylocks (I've never been to her myself, but I met her once in passing--long story). I think she does nice synth dreads (that's the only work I saw), but loose I don't know. Did you complain to her about the hair? Did she agree to give you a refund or to re-do the job?
If I'm not mistaken, Dollylocks does pinchbraids (although she may do microrings or fusion, too, I don't know). Anyway, with pinchbraids, because the hair is overlapped at the root, you can end up losing 2 or so inches off the length of the hair. I really like the pinchbraiding process, but it's a drag to lose that length, so I'm always looking for superlong hair to make up for those inches. So if yours were pinchbraided with 18, they probably ended up more like what 16 or 16 1/2 inches would be with another process. Ugghhh.....
yea, they were pinchbraided, but she sent me the extra hair. and i measured it and held it up to the 18in hair i bought from hisandher.com
i never complained to her about length or quality of the hair bc it wasn't until about 5 or 6 months after until i realized. (when i bought the new hair).
she only comes to nyc every two months or so, so there was nothing she could do about the mullet she left me with bc she was in miami and i would have to wait at least a month for her to come back to CT. We had it out on Q's board. I never took pics of my hair with her extensions honestly bc i was so ashamed of how horrible i looked after spending $700.
Oh, OK. I think I saw that review awhile back. I remember hearing about the mullet, certainly. It's such a drag when things work out that way. I've had some terrible experiences myself, so I can relate. Better luck this time (and measure the hair right then and there to make sure it's what you're paying for).
I'm very sorry to hear that so many people are having bad experiences with hair extensions. However, I specialize in several non-surgical hair enhancement procedures that are both safe and effective on clients who have thinning hair, short hair, balding hair, fragile hair or anyone who desires to have more hair. Feel free to check out my website www.excellength.com
Well, I can't believe I'm doing it again after what I have experienced in the past but I'm going Friday to have NEW and LONGER Hairloc's put in. Yeah! I'm the furious girl who went to have more hair added a few months ago and got ripped off on the length. You can be sure that this time I will go with a measuring tape in hand.
The amount you're paying is insane, and there's nothing special about the hairlocs hair or locs; the extendtubes from hairpiece.com are just as good--in fact, better, because they don't tarnish. It's not like you're even happy with the job these stylists are doing for you.
Instead of continuing to pay thousands, invest $99 in the starter kit from hairpiece.com: http://www.hairpiece.com/product.asp?pf_id=APE151 Order 250 of each size in your hair color. Then, you'll have all the tools you'll need and enough extendtubes for several applications.
You can use the hair you already have from hairlocs with this technique, and when it's time for you to replace the hair, you can order your own hair online for a fraction of the hairlocs price.
It's really that simple, Lisa. There are tons of online tutorials to help you, and it's absolutely not necessary to have that double-pronged removal tool; in fact, some people claim it causes more damage to use that than pliers.
With extendtubes, you'll still probably have some slippage, but you'll have the supplies to reinstall them yourself. If you want to switch to a method that doesn't slip as much, you may want to think about using shrinkies at some point. But for now, I would try the extendtubes--the quickest and easiest method of extensions on the market.
Hi Jen, Thanks for the information on the starter kit from hairpiece.com. I still have to keep my appointment for tomorrow because she has ordered me the 24" hair and I have already paid for it. She won't need to remove all the hair I currently have in now, she will just be adding the longer hair in and then layering it. And from that point on I will be doing maintenance myself with my NEW STARTER KIT FROM HAIRPIECE.COM. Again, thanks for the info. lisa
Hi Jen, I called yesterday and got some more information from Hairpiece.com, and will call back today to order the starter kit. I also emailed Kristen from Haircandy.com ( I had spoken with her previously) just to get some feedback on the company. She also purchases supplies from this company and freguents their store in LA. She said that the starter kit was a good investment for me. I will keep you posted on how it goes and maybe even post some pictures of my hair. Thanks again, Lisa
I obviously proof read these posts too quickly, and once I have posted them I re-read them, only to find spelling errors. Last post- Frequents instead of Freguents. sorry! had to clear that up!
