excellength, I have been a DIYer for several years and have been a member of a few different boards about hair extensions. I know many people that use the pinchbraid method very successfully. You said yourself that you are not very familiar with that method so please dont try to scare people away from that method with words like traction alopecia then promote your own method. Im sure your method has its downsides just as all methods do!
According to Quinnster's, "Prostyles and Dome both sell loose hair....generally in one length (not doubled over) is about 24 inches long."
That information may be a bit old, but I can't imagine it's any shorter now. Prostyles, in fact, offers some hair that's 48 inches end to end, and Plastikhaar is the longest of all. Anyway, I think your hair will at least be 24 inches--a lot of people use synth hair for doubled-over styles, and 18 inch wouldn't get them too far with that. So figure 24 inches at least, minus 1 1/2 inches for the pinchbraid foldover, and that still leaves you with 22 1/2 inch long hair.
One thing to keep in mind with the Dome (if you didn't know this already): The hair comes in tiny little packets and looks like ringlets when you get it (even if you ordered the classic wave or whatever), but don't be disturbed by that. Yippie! I'm so happy for you. Have you checked it out yet? Did it come all curled up in a tiny little bag? Does it loosen when you take it out, or do you have to blow-dry it (I think it's the latter). Anyway, good luck! I can't wait to hear how it goes. By the way, did yuo order their Classic or Wave texture? What color(s) did you get, and are you happy with the shade? :)
I pulled it out today. It is bulk so I have to be super careful. I emailed Bridget Boogiemama and she said two bags of Dome is enough for one head so I have three bags total so no panicking.
It seems pretty straight with a little wave, much like bodywave human clearance hisanherhair just in synth. it does have a synth smell, when i put some conditioner type stuff on it. I didn't blow dry it yet but the ends will need it. but i didn't want to be messing with the bulk hair. (that would be me with the hair all over the place with none left to put on my head lol
i have shade 01 02 and 03 i bought 01 and 02 to mix together and 03 for "lowlights"
edit: i love the shades.. the white is white but i think it is perfect to mix with the 02/ash
LMAO...Julie can you explain to me why human hair smells like ass... Im tired here, and about falling out of my chair laughing when I read that! I think I read in another post that you said this board gets funny..well I guess youll fit in just fine! Hehehe
I don't think human hair smells like a** generally (although I imagine it would depend on the person), but I can't stomach the smell of burnt human hair--basically that smell you whiff every time you walk into a salon. It makes me wanna hurl, truly. Has anyone else every noticed this?
I've had human hair that's had an off odor, sort of chemical something or other but I couldn't put my finger on it. I didn't find it pleasant but I didn't feel like I had to reach for the toilet paper and give it a wipe either. Hee!
Well, maybe it is just my sensitive sense of smell. It just smells like poo to me, maybe not to other people, but to me it does. Just my stinkie opinion. It hasn't stopped me from wearing them though. I just prefer the smell of synth.
