Sorry, the site is actually www.tlhs.org... not .com. Well worth the visit.

Does it really matter whether one donates money or hair? If money were donated, it would go towards operating expenses for the charity. If hair is donated, it'll either be used to make wigs, or sold to help cover operating expenses for the charity. So it's pretty much the same thing. It's just that if hair is the donation, there's at least a chance it'll actually end up on the head of a child. Maybe people just like feeling it could.
Anyway, I liked Ann so much more in shorter hair, so I don't think she should need any excuse or explanation to cut it, so long as she does :-) .
More awesome than a manatee!

Will you please stop it with the disparaging and speculative slander aboput hair donations? SHeesh, it's obvious to everyone here but you that you feel that long hair on a woman is something to be kept sacred from cradle to grave. Please take your eyes off of yourself and your own feelings and understand that some people are driven to the noble act of sacrafice by something more precisous to them than their own vanity. It's called compassion.

This is an argument you just won't win.

Kramer's presentation of legitimate questions is valid. Just because a certain POV has been presented in a media feature does not mean that it is legitimate, or that it is the only perspective on the issue.

If you think that people who don't donate their own long hair are merely being selfish and uncompassionate, that's your problem. If donating hair is important to you, then do your own part and grow you own 12" donation -- don't be selfish and go to the barber/salon every 6 weeks and thoughtlessly discard that precious 3/4" growth to selfishly maintain your preferred hairstyle.

Plenty of people donate to a variety of charitable organizations. Myself included. Just because I don't donate my own hair does not make me uncompassionate. Get over yourself Carmichael. Let people keep their long hair if they want, free of duress. And don't champion those who distort (or fail to present) any of the facts surrounding the amount of hair donated compared to the amount used in hairpieces made for these charities. I am in favor of people making informed decisions -- not keeping them in the dark while tugging on their heartstrings.

Say what you will about Locks of Love, but Ann Curry looked spectacular on the NBC tribute to Johnny Carson tonight. Ann, let it grow, let it grow, let it grow!

Re-read my post, who said anything about being selfish and uncompassionate if men or women do or don't donate their hair and who else felt that I'm trying to "win" any arguments here?

My point was simply that, even if you feel that Locks of Love is the biggest scam in America please don't tell the 13 women who donated to the pitiful young girl in my link that people can't possibly make a difference by donating their hair.

By the way Dave this post wasn't about you, really. We all know how you feel about your hair, you've made that eminently clear. I'm happy to hear that you donate money to charities, but I frankly didn't need to know that about you either. Sorry if my post hurt your feelings, I surely didn't mean to offend.

It was all about the hair and makeup this morning on the Today Show on NBC.

Katie, whose hair was cut shorter last week, switched the part to the other side today and looked like crap, although I'm sure some of you will think she looked sporty or perky.

Ann toned down the red lipstick and looked amazing with her long, gorgeous hair. I'm going to dread the day she cuts it.

Today I ran across the people magazine with the article about donating her hair. All it says in the article is she is planning on donating her hair, it doesn't give any date (not January as mentioned in the other post) for when she plans to make the donation. So she could still let her hair grow for quite awhile before cutting it.

Carmichael,

Yes, I know full well that your response (22-Jan-2005 9:48:33 AM) was not directed at me. Just like you don't want to hear my "lecture," neither does Kramer need to hear yours.

To me, the conditions under which people choose to donate a charity which is shown in only in spectaculary flattering puff pieces does matter. Their ends do not justify their means, no matter how worthy their ends may or may not be.

Your post did not hurt my feelings, nor was I offended personally. But understand that my reaction was similarly "edgy" to yours to Kramer.

If nothing else, perhaps I am coming to the realization that any discussion of a (hair) political nature (such as this one) need either to be deleted or moved to the Hair Politics board. There are some here (perhaps many) who don't want to read about hair charities. They merely want to comment on how they love or hate some celeb's long or short hair or hair change. This board is about the celebs, not about charities involved with hair.

Without checks and balances on places like Locks of Love, we would only be able to hear stories about Ann Curry and others thinking that LOL is a great place that uses all the hair it receives, while Doubting Thomases like myself would be forced to remain silent, unable to point out potential kinks in the armor or even complaints from the Better Business Bureau. Some how that seems unfair or, atleast, unbalanced.

Perhaps in part because political discussions such as this one aren't posted in the proper forum. (hint hint)

Has anybody else noticed that Ann Curry has been hiding her long hair behind her back much more than before? I wonder if it's starting to annoy her or if she's preparing viewers for the big cut.

I think and hope it's that way just because it is long enough to do so. But could be getting us ready for s shorter look or make it look that way. The day she does cut I'll be sad for she looks fantastic with it so long.

I hope Ann knows how great she looked this morning. Not just the hair -- which looked outstanding -- but the total package.
