more confused than before...

hey fina - yep. i had them redone at about 8 weeks...mainly b/c i wanted a change. the takedown on the first set was painless and easy...i had my friend here do it; it just involved cutting the little string with a razor over the synth and it slips right off. my friend, ahem, chopped of a small amount of my hair before she figured it out. for me with the braids and my weedlike hair growth the braids higher up on my crown started to grow out and show. i like the look of the braid..that isn't a problem. it just got a little bumpy? an alternative would be to take out the higher ones and put in shrinkies, or just have the top braids tightened. the lower braids were in, buddy, i had no slippage and not one came out. they also didn't show or look bumpy or anything. as someone previously stated, you could still drag my around by the braids ..not that that would be very pleasant.

heather charges $60/hr if you byoh (bring your own hair) up to a max of $400; both times I have brought in my own plastikhaar. she does use human hair too which she can tell you more about i'm sure. i think there is some individual variation with the hourly thing b/c it does kinda depend on your head size, hair length, how many rows you need etc etc. she can give you a better idea likely. i think it's 450 if she supplies hair and all ...she stocks synth which i'm pretty sure is prostyles/trimco? double check that with her...she pretty much keeps all colors (natural and funky) in stock on her little wall o' hair so in theory you could just walk in off the street and have it done.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to call you back yesterday, I ended up working really late, but I left a message today.

Human hair generally matches the texture of your own hair best. Synthetic hair can be shinier than your own hair and tends to be more noticeable. If you want something more natural, I suggest human hair. The cost of human hair is not included in the price because it varies so greatly depending on length, color, etc... and it's near impossible to stock human hair because of all the variations.  I generally like to use hair from http://hisandher.com . I prefer to use the "50% Italian Mink" hair [it's 100% human hair, that's just a level of quality] over hair that's had its cuticle stripped. It generally takes 2 bundles of hair, how much hair you use depends on the length of your hair, size of your head, thickness, etc... I can go over all the details; different textures and qualities with you, if you are interested. I'm currently wearing a mix of recycled and new human hair. If you take proper care of the hair, it can last about a year.

You really don't want to wear *any* extensions for more than a few months. As the hair grows away from the scalp, the extensions need to be tightened or they can cause damage. Because my hair grows so fast, I need to have my hair tightened at least every 2 months, but some people can go longer.
