I'll try and get some pictures posted soon...maybe that would help. I REALLY appreciate all of the help and responses! :) One thing I should have mentioned...I will still need to be able to wear my hair in a ponytail for working out and stuff. Also, I would like to be able to go swimming and not have to worry about it being obvious, falling out, etc.
okay...got some pics. pretty embarrassed to post them but hopefully it will help me decide which would work best for my situation. One more thing I thought about too...the wedding is outside in the mountains so I'm sure that there will be at least a bit of a breeze, if not completely windy...will certain extensions show through when the wind is blowing??? K..here's the pics..sorry so many, I didn't know which would be most helpful....my hair is sitll kinda wet in some of them. (ignore the jammies! )
From the front, how it naturally lays (very flat on top, no hair in front):
From top:
From side:
From back (wet and dry):
From front with *ALL* of my hair pulled forward...no hair hanging down the back at all :
It's amazing to me how much our health can affect our hair quality. I used to have really shiny, smooth, silky hair. As you can see, it is dry and frizzy now...I never use any chemicals on it..it just changed that much when I got sick. I think if it wasn't frizzy like that, it would be even more stringy, if that is possible though. I know that I could get rid of some of the "stringiness" by chopping it off but I have always had long hair and loved it. I do'nt want to cut it off and then spend years trying to grow it back. I would rather find a way to camoflauge the thinness a little while my natural hair grows back in a little. That being said, a trim is definitely in order now that I've seen these pictures. :)
Well...let me know what you think would work best...not show through, be able to wear in a ponytail, look natural, etc. THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
I do think you could do the tape method, the top area you would probably need a skin weft so it looks like your own hair. Plus with the tape method you could use conditioner (loads) to get it out. I don't know enough about micros to say if they'd be great for your hair, I'm sure one of the girls will know. I believe you will be able to use extensions though, so that should be encouraging.
Thanks for the encouraging words... I do hope to be able to do the extensions without it being totally obvious! :) I hope that I can find someone that isn't too far from where i live. Anyone recommend someone in colorado, new mexico, arizona, utah? Thanks for all of the great help! :)
oh yeah..since my hair texture is not very good now, is it going to be obvious what is my damaged hair and what is the pretty extension hair? is it easy to blend them together? thanks again!

There are so many options- and everyone is different - if you do decide to try the clip ins, the human hair versions are far superior to the synthetic ones , as sold on home shopping ect. ( they are often too shiny) . I have made my own, but I prefer the premade, styled ones as they are able to produse results with netting and wefted hair that would be difficult to reproduce at home, plus they are precut and styled to exactly the right length. It can be difficult to cut or layer clip ins that you make your self . Not impossible , but it does take practice and the hair is expensive. A stylist may be able to help you out with the cutting and styling, but blunt cut wefts can look really bad, IMHO, so look for someone who razor cuts.
If you have other questions about the look of love clip ins, feel free to pm me- I don't have any relation to the company , other than being a very satisfied customer, but I have several pieces and have ordered several for friends and clients, as well.
Early years are learning years, make them count!

I think Naked Eye's idea of seamless hair is great!
It's easy to install yourself, and it really is one of the best method if you don't have much hair on top.
And it still feels light.
I don't like to advertise for this company, but I know that they sell seamless hair +kit and it is really easy to use, the hair was too coarse for me, but I know another girl who loves loves loves this hair, check it out:

Could you post a pick of the top and sides dry and a closer one of the back dry? When your hair is dry it looks as if you could wear any type of extensions.
I saw this site http://www.laceflair.com . I think you may be able to wear these. They say if you don't see your color, if you send in a sample they'll match it for you. It looks elegant enough to wear to the wedding, affordable and it appears pretty easy to put in.

With the seamless hair can you wear your hair up at all?
I'm not familiar with pinchbraids...I'll have to do a search and read up on them. Thanks for the suggestion. I liek the idea that there are no chemicals involved...how large/visible are the attachments on those?
I'll try and get some more pics with my hair dry. The laceflair do look like they would work if i got one that matched perfectly. I was kind of hoping to wear my hair down (or at least partially down) for the wedding but if the extensions don't end up working out, then this is definitely an option. I'll try and get pics posted soon.
I'm also going to look for at the look of love clip ins..thanks for the brand suggestion as I am so clueless about all of this.
THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP!!!

What's your real or nickname, I'm sorry but I refuse to call you mommy.
You may also want to consider microillusions. They can take 3-7 days to install. The price is between $1200-$4000. They're similiar to pinch braids but aren't braided more than a 1/4 down, the extension hair is then wrapped around your hair and then two pieces of the extension hair is then tied off. Gina posts a similar type that uses a micro hook and ties off into a little knot.
Only your hair and the extension hair is used, no string, monofibre, glue, links etc. Usually last 8 months to a year. Also called undetectable strands and undetectable hair.
They're so tiny you can barely see them, you have to be looking for them and you can't feel them at all. About five strands of hair attached to 5 strands of your own hair. That's why they're "invisible" to the eye and touch, takes so long and costs so much dang on money

Sorry to hear your health issues are affecting you - I can definately relate as I sit here during a week long stay at Mayo clinic...
I know its hard to part with hair, even as it thins, but a little bit of a trim would both rid you of some damaged hair and a nice cut always makes extensions look better. :)
The ladies have definately started you off on the right track, and its great your'e doing your own research too. You're situation is specific to you and your hair, so its important to do that IMO.
The skin weft idea is a good one for sure. I'm not sure if pinch braids however will work, because if your hair is particuarlly thin, tey can easily show through where they are installed since they are like little nobs. http://hairextensions101.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1952 here's a link to a friend from anothe forum's clients install. if you found the right person, they might be able to make smaller braids maybe.
As far as your concerns about blending or a partial up do, curling the hair, and doing a little bit of a half up do can really get a great look with extensions. http://hairextensions101.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1916 this is a pretty good example I found for you of how you could do it. you should be able to get a low ponytail easily with most installs, if you want to acheieve a little bit higher one, then move the bottom row's placement up a bit and that will help. I just did an install where i used microlinks on the bottom two rows so I could get a better pony and it worked much better than the wefted for me. With wind, it really depends on just how strong it is, a light breeze shouldn't be much of a problem if you have good placement. And with swimming, I honestly haven't done it yet with tapes, but from what I've heard, its definately a good idea to put it in a loose braid to prevent any tangling and make sure to comb out any tangles, from the bottom up, whenever you get a chance to do it.
ok thats probably enough stuff for ya to read over now! good luck! :)
I have never heard of microillusions. The install time is a bit overwhelming, but it really sounds like it would work perfectly for this situation. I like the thought that they could possibly last longer since I am going to have to travel to have this done. If I could really get that long out of them, I may only have to have it done once anyway (famous last words, eh? hehe!) I also love the fact that they are chemical free because that makes it that much less likely that I would have a problem with them.
Where can I find out more about them? Are there a lot of salons that do them? Is the weight of the extra hair more likely to pull out my natural hair if it is attached to small pieces like that? I am very intrigued even though I can't imagine sitting there for days to have them put in! :)
I had no idea that stylists will travel to me if I am willing to pay! wow! Depending on the cost, that would be awesome! I just don't even know where to begin finding ppl that offer the service that I want, etc. I've tried googling for people in my area but am not having much luck.
Bunnywabbit- I didn't see your post before I submitted that last one..sorry!
I agree that a good trim would help. It's hard to give up the thought of having the long hair that i've had for as long as I can remember, but it's not the same now anyway that it is just strings at the bottom anyway. :) Thanks for letting me know that the pinchbraids may show through. That is my biggest concern in finding something since my hair is thin on the sides and top. I do'nt want it to be obvious and look silly....especially since I'll be in lots of pictures and am anticipating some wind at the wedding.
I will definitely take a look at the links that you provided as soon as I finish writing this..thanks for taking the time to find those. :) I can see how a little bit of styling could help blend the extensions...I will have to get in the habit of that. I've always been pretty lazy about just letting it dry and leave it down. Lately, I've just been wearing it up since it is so thin so I haven't actually styled it in a while. Probably need some lessons on that when it comes time..hehe! :)
I am worried about being able to put it in a ponytail. I will make sure to keep those pionts in mind whichever method I end up going with. I like to have my hair up when I workout, go to the park with my daughter when it is windy, etc...so this is important to me.
I really appreciate everyone taking hte time to respond to all of my questions!!!
Microillusions sound so interesting indeed, it's too expensive for me but I'll have a good job, maybe!
I agree w/ Bunnywabbit that pinchbraid may show through and i understand your concern about invisibility.
I think seamless would be a good option for you if you're not ready to pay too much, and yes, you can place them very cery high, but you have to find the good mtach with your own hair color!

This salon's stylist will come to you. They do the microillusions, they call them undetectable strand by strand. They offer other solutions as well that are more affordable. There's a contact number posted to discuss costs and arrangements. It may be much cheaper if you come out here to Maryland though. Ask them if they have installed microillusions in Caucasian hair before and ask for pics. If they say the have and can't send you pics, I'll go over and look at their portfolio, but you really need to see them yourself. DO NOT COMMIT TO ANYTHING OVER THE PHONE YET. Talk to us first. That's a whole bunch of money.
You may want to send them pics and a sample of your hair, they'll let you know. I haven't used their services but my girlfriend MAY get the microillusions. You may want to see hers before you commit, that's IF she get's them. She's on the fence about it but I'll ask her again today.
There are a few other salons w/traveling stylists I want to check out. I think the closest one to you is in Texas.

Jenni, I don't think this salon has traveling stylist, you can ask, but they say if you get a service worth $1500 or more, about the price of the microillusions, they'll give you a $200 travel allowance towards your airfare. They're here in Maryland also. Don't forget to ask them about pics of microillusions in caucasian hair. AND NO COMMITMENTS. You can tell them you need to talk to your husband first and that you'll call them back. Do a search for these salons here also. I don't know about Kinks but we have discussed Marcella Ellis here before.
