Poor thang. I know it's frustrating but you'll get it.
If you use tape again order some Supertape from Sherrie at www.hairextensions101.com or from Kim at www.mymaneattractions.com I don't remember if Sherrie has the Supertape strips with the words on them, Kim does. Those are supposed to be stronger than the others and less shiny. Clarify with Pantene's clarifyer twice.
Are you following someones demo instructions? If so, whose?

JeepGirl - on the day of install I used a clarifying poo and no conditioner (i did put a leave in on the ends once it was dry though but it didnt come near my scalp) My hair is usually dry so I can go for 3-4 days before i need to wash it.
Sherrie - Do i need to avoid moisturizing poo's during the duration of the install or just the first few times?
KristieMLove - Maybe thats what went wrong then? I used a mosturizing shampoo after my install. I only used the clarifying shampoo pre-install.
Malibu - I am considering using just LG. So far the sew ins was the best hold for me....
Asinnamon - i may try again and go for a week or so with a clar shampoo.
Now I just need to decide: should i try for a third time with tape/LG OR go for sew ins and risk another bald patch.
KidRobot, I tried to get my tape out after 24 hours to reposition a couple rows and had a really hard time. I washed with Neutrogena Anti-Residue, and it would not budge. Then when I washed with my Smooth Down, they came right out!

Awww, bummer kidrobot. I was hoping it was gonna hold for ya this time. My next thought is that it may have something to do with the products/shampoo/conditioner that you are using. I dont use anything that is really emollient, and I usually use a thinner shampoo. Nothing that is real creamy or heavy. I am befuddled....especially since you used LG on the tapes also.
The only time I have EVER had a weft come right out was when I used Abba Moisture Scentsations (TWICE). It had a really really STRONG minty scent, so I had to come to the conclusion to AVOID this type of shampoo.
Kid, did you use a clarifying poo on your hair first? Did you put any type of hair product on before you blow dried your hair and then did the install?
After install or next day, did you use any greasy hair products on your hair and get it too close to the roots and tape?
Do you have greasy hair or is your hair dry? What I mean is...how long can you go without washing your hair before it feels or looks dirty. We need more info on exactly what you do before/during/after your install.....don't leave anything out no matter how small or trivial it may seem....maybe we can figure out what is happening.
Thanks,
JeepGirl
Current install-Bohyme Bodywave #30 and #14 in the straight hair/ they didn't have the #14 in bodywave, so I mixed them...works great!

Kid, what kind of shampoo are you using when your tapes fall out? I'm like you and if i use a moisturizing shampoo in the first week of my install, bam, tapes fall right out in the shower. So, I HAVE to use a clear shampoo on the scalp and tapes, then I use a moisturizing shampoo on the length. I have found as long as the shampoo is clear I'm fine, regardless of what brand. Right now I have some apple smelling green suave shampoo and some rosemary shampoo from avalon in the shower and both work fine on the tapes. After that first week of shampoos, I can then use my regular shampoo(hello hydration) without a problem....

Hmmmm... I don't get it. When I did a LG install it stayed but I had those boogers.... You might want to try LG only and see...I don't know why you experienced bald patches but my guess is your braids were too tight. I've never seen that with my braids and if I did it would really upset me. I also (knock on wood) never suffered from the smell that people talk about with tracks or the itches. Those things would be a big turn off.....I'm not sure why some people experience that and some don't. Perhaps it has to do with care and maintaince???
well, last nite was my first shampoo since my tape & LG install on saturday. The tracks came out again. Dang it! I am not sure what is going wrong.
So now I am wondering...should I try again without the tape (using just LG) or should I try a different brand of tape?
What other types of tape are good? (I have the kind with the holes in it - i think its called pro-tac?)
I would go back to sew ins but i am concerned about doing that because when the braids were removed I was left with a small bald patch at the beginning and end of one of the rows (one patch on each temple). Its about the diameter of a dime but at that rate I could have a real problem over time.
Also, how many rows do you guys do for a full install? I typically wear about 8 hand tieds ( hair short plus I keep a lot of layers). Would you recommend more rows but only doubled wefts or less rows with tripled wefts? Or does it even matter?
Where do you put the LG? Is it on the ends predominantlyto secure the tape?
Hello all! This topic is a GODSEND to me today!
I got my weave redone a couple days ago and went down from 3 to 2 rows. For some reason, my lady thought that meant installing the 2 rows even higher up on my head! It looked RIDICULOUS! I do 4 wefts on each row and the top row was right at my crown. You could clearly see the big BUMP, especially when I pull it in a pony. So I took the top row out, had my husband sew the "top" weft onto my second row, and was going to go get another braid sewn in below that today. Anyhow I got a wild hair (literally as well as figuratively) about midnight last night and decided to play with the tapes. I love it.......so far. I am taking this other braid out in a bit and going to try the tape method solely.
Now for questions:
Which is the best tape and where do I get it? I think I got what I used last night on Shrinkies.
How do I take a row out that I have just taped in? I did a small row on the side and the placement is incorrect and too thick.
Sherrie, why do you have pieces that are only 1/4" thick? I know you say it is in the crown.
Can you do a temple to temple row or is it better to use separate tape for the sides?
I am sure I will think of more. Thanks everyone! This site helps me sleep better at night!

Here's the update: I did my first tape/LG install on saturday using everyones helpful suggestions. So far so good!!! No lifting, no slippage, just a firm hold.
Thank you to everyone for all their help.
In a few weeks I will probably be asking for help regarding the takedown!

I'm with you Sherrie on install....I flat iron my tapes once I fold them over and just hit it all the way across the tape with some heat to really seal them together.....once I put them in I also pull some hair down and press/gently come my hair straight down and then roll my curling iron from the top to cottom to set the tape and the LG.
I don't run LG from one end to the other though...I just hit both ends well and hit a couple of spots inbetween.
I generally take my out after 5 weeks....hate that floppy feeling after my hair grows out......lol......it's still secure but I like a new install feel.
I had alot of issues when I first started wearing the tape but I have perfected what works for me and it last.
Seal those wefts in the tape first....I also add a few spots of LG on the inside because I triple most of my rows....then do the rest.
YES...clariifying poo is definetely a big key to success......you can always add stuff to you hair after install...just keep it away from your tapes.
I don't usually wash my hair for 4 or 5 days after install. I have dry hair, so the longer I go the better my hair does.
Good Luck....it will get better with practice!!
Thanks,
JeepGirl

Hey Metal, I use the flatiron to set the tapes to the wefts before I install them. Then after I install them (after I pull the layer of hair down over the top of the tape) I use the heat from the blowdryer to set the tape into my hair.
When you say to set the tape with heat, how are you doing that? Do you take a flat iron and heat the tape (with the paper still on) before you apply to hair?
kid...I color and reinstall the same day, I just skip the conditioning if reinstalling the same day...the DRYER your hair the better for a tape install
I used LG for a long time. I had very good luck with LG, as far as longetivity. I could easily get 5-8 weeks out of a LG install alone, using the 'sandwich method' (this will increase the length of a LG install by a few weeks)
I found LG to be harder to remove. Not extremely hard, but definitely more work than tape for me. Seems LG just holds like cement in my hair.
Tape method alone I used for several months/maybe a year. I could get about 5-7 weeks wear. Sometimes a few loose spots that I would touch up with a bit of LG. Pretty easy removal.
Since I started combining the tape with LG, the wear time increased by several weeks. 10-11 weeks is now the norm for me. Granted they are usually well grown out with regrowth, and my roots look hideous, but they are still very secure yet when I do takedown, and rarely ever need to do any touch ups.
Removal with the tape w/'little' LG is still relatively easy. But I really think I should redo between 8-9 weeks....but I try to push it as long as I can for lack of time most times.
