NO, I am not taking anything right now as I am very lazy. I stopped taking my multi vitamins too since I always forget.

Unfortunately, I blow dry my hair almost every morning - If I don't, it will take half a day letting it completely dry and it's cold and my clothes get too wet plus it frizzies up like a troll!

I get my shampoo and conditioner at Trade Secret when they go on sale or there's a small beauty supply store near my house that sells it cheaper than other places. I also love going to Sally's Beauty Salon.

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-6/224757/oct2003.jpg

I have heard of MSM but not really familiar with it, My last trim was about July I think.

Ask all the questions you need, that's how I started and that is how I met everyone here - they were all very helpful!!!

How long is your hair???

My hair is down to my bra strap and will not grow anymore after that!! SERIOUSLY! I had my hair japanese straightened with Liscio in September and I love it! I can let my hair air dry and it looks fine! My hair type is naturally wavy frizzy and had TONS of body and volume but I hated it, it was a disaster! I could send pics of the japanese straightening but I don't know how to get them on here! Not very computer savvy! I really do appreciate all of your help! I have to pretty much use my japanese shampoos and conditioners for now by CREDE, so I don't really have a choice to experiment with other products! But I have been trying vitamins! I want my hair LONG LONG LONG! !!!!

hey gingerlee! I think you're one of the rare people satisfied with the process, but I'm happy it worked for you. I'd do it too if I could afford it and also would be guaranteed it wouldn't ruin my hair. if you want, you can send the pics to artlapin@hotmail.com
I'd love to see in case I do ever decide to try it!

I am glad you are happy ginger! I did the Yuko system about 2 years ago and I loved it also. My mom liked it so much that I had to take her too! I don't think I will ever do it again though. It was kind of a pain watching the new growth wavy and the rest straight. Hehehe. My hair is naturally wavy and thick and my mom has thick coarse hair.

Send me a pic also, jhaided@hotmail.com =)

hey Jenna and Crazygirl your pics are on the way! Did you hear alot of people that did not like their results (Jenna)? I think it's all in the person that you go to! They should have alot of experience in the straightening process. Also I have heard NOTHING good about the CHI system. I think that Liscio is the way to go! And also if people have highlights and than get their straightened I don't think this is good! The person that straightened my hair is wonderful!! In fact I now drive 2 1/2 hours each way just to get my hair trimmed and deep condtioned by her! She is very knowledgeable about the hair and is honest! I know she has turned people away that wanted to get their hair straightened but they just weren't good candidates. Hope you were able to receive the pix ok! If you have any questions just let me know! Thanks!

Hi Ginger, thank you for the pictures! Your hair is absolutely beautiful and perfectly straight. It's so healthy and shiny. I think my hair might be a little bit wavier than your before pic, but then again mine is shorter so it could just look that way. You're very pretty too!

I have heard of a lot of people from another message board getting TR done and having too flat hair, breakage, dryness, not enough straight enough, etc. Maybe they used a different system than yours, or their stylists didn't do it right. I'm really glad yours worked out and you found someone you can trust! Would you mind telling me how much it cost? Do they charge more for longer hair? And was your hair nice the next day, or were there any problems? Thanks!

Ive been called a hippy before too! Of course its mostly because I wear lots of flowy long skirts and dresses!

Ive got a different goal...not hair related but sort of. My goal is to lose 5 pounds by Christmas. I could try for 2 pounds per week as is a good amount for moderate loss over time but i dont want to rush myself too much. I would just like to loose it and keep it off and have a good plan to do that.

How is this hair related? Well, my hair will be more accented if I have a nice waist to show off with it...they can compliment each other!

Thanks so much Jenna and Crazygirl!!! Jenna just to let you know the price that I paid was $500.00 I think the price does depend on the length of the hair because of the time it took 6 hours for my hair where if you said your hair is shorter than it shouldn't take as long. It might also depend on the hair type too??!!!?? Like if someone has alot of curl it might take just as long as someone with really long hair! The best thing to do is have a consultation done 1st. That way you get a feel of how confident the person is doing your hair and you can see how much knowledge they have about the process. Ask alot of questions to your stylist I think that is also helpful !!! I had no problems with my hair the next day or any time after words!! It's so easy!! As far as the price I think it's well worth it!! Normally I had my hair straightened twice a year with RUSK Radical (which ended up wavy in a month) and than had to use 5 different products every time I washed, so the cost of all the products and the other straightener would probably average to what the Japanese straightening would be! Good luck if you decide to do it!! If you have any other questions let me know!!!

Thanks for the info, Ginger. I was considering this before and had given up the idea, but with your great sucess stories I want to look into it again. I think I'll wait about 4 months or so because I want my hair to be longer and all one length first. I'm moving next year to somewhere very rainy most of the year, and then I wouldnt have to worry about my hair getting frizzed all the time! How does your hair do in the rain now? Also I wondered if you're able to curl your hair after having TR. Even though I love straight hair, I want to make sure I have other options just in case.

And this is probably a longshot, but do you know of anyone good in northern california? thanks!

Just wondering, Lyris and CrazyGirl, did you start the hair growth with the blunt curved cut, or do you have your hair trimmed that way? Your hair is absolutely beautiful!

Hi Papillon! I have 2 pics posted here, the older one... it was a straight cut. The latest one was cut blunt because of my bangs. I have grown them and it looks better when it's layered kinda.

So I see
That even in 2003
The term "hippie"
Is still used derisively.

Hi Erinlynn,

How about one pound per week, average? Here's how I did it 3 years ago:

1) up your cardio (and weight training) exercise (times per week, duration, and intensity of workout)

2) drink a lot more water (throughout the day)

3) eat small (even tiny) meals, but more of them throughout the day. Balanced diet, supplement with daily multi-vit/min. Target daily caloric intake would be 1500.

Just a suggested plan.

Hi Jenna your answer about the rain is my hair does fine in the rain, before I would step out in the rain I would have curls all around my face like a lion and puffed out hair . I have no clue of any hair stylist in California SORRY in fact I am clear across the country from you I am from PA where I had my done was Pittsburgh (home of the Pittsburgh Steelers) !!!! My advice would be find someone who specializes in Liscio I think that may be a better system! I bet you will be fine! Yeah like you I prefer all one lenght hair when it's straight also! Keep us posted! Again if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask me!!!

Hi Ginger, I found out some news while browsing the Salon Discussion message board about TR. A couple people recommended this salon in NYC which does the Liscio system for only $250, and they were both quite happy with it. I happen to be going there at the end of December, so now I'm considering getting it done over there! It is sooner than I wanted, but it is such a good deal, and it'll probably be better for my hair that I won't have to iron it anymore. If I already have some split ends, will TR make them worse? You said your had to trim your hair a lot, and do you think that TR damaged it at all, or has it always been that way? I just don't want to do anything that would get in the way of my goal for longer hair. Thanks so much for your help with my questions.

edit: another question. Did you have to wait 72 hours to get your hair wet? I am afraid of rain in NYC, so maybe I should wait until the day before I leave?

Dave thanks!

Ive been trying to do some of those things. I want to buy an eliptical machine to add a twist on the brisk walking Im doing but I dont have the money or space for one right now...and the YMCA is out because of money and time. I can find 30-40 minutes to go for a fast walk almost every day but I cant see spending money on a gym when I dont know if ill be able to get there and still have time for other things. Right now Im walking during my lunch.

I really just need to eat better...more fish, less eating out and I need t eat before 7pm. Last night I had Olive Garden at 9pm. BAD!!!! It wasnt my choice but I couldnt resist once there.

Anyways thanks again!

Hey Jenna I honestly don't mind the questions at all anything to help!! You only have to wait 48 hours to wash or get your hair wet! So you might want to carry an umbrella just in case !!! That is an unbelievable price especially for New York!!! Do you mind me asking what salon it is?? Do you have to go in for a consultation before hand? I wonder how it is so cheap?? That's WONDERFUL !!! As far as the split ends I just really like to keep my hair trimmed I have always been a 6 weeks girl. I don't ever get much taken off just the very very ends!! My stylist said that it actually helps even though it is so very little! I am just a nut when it comes to unhealthy dry looking hair I can't stand it I once put mayonaise in my hair because I heard that it is very good for your hair!!! As far if my hair is damaged for the straightening NOT AT ALL!! In fact it looks and feels healthier. Before my hair would feel course and not silky! Hope this helps!! Good luck keep me informed!!!!

Jenna, didn't you say you were moving to Northern California? I know this one place in the LA area where my mom and I went. She is really nice and she is very good at what she does. She is Japanese and very experienced with this. Yuko system I think is the one that started all these, originating from Japan. I found her name under a list of licensed or trained specialist. She has charged me and my mom $150.00 including the shampoo and conditioner that you need to use at home. After that, you can get re-touches for $125.00 - Cheapest one I could find back then... about 2 years ago (not sure how much now but she knows me well so I can always ask her and refer you to her). Everywhere I asked was at least $500 for my long hair.

Ginger, thanks for the encouragement! I was very surprised at the price too, since I thought everyone charged at least $400-500 minimum. Here's a description of the salon. http://www.beautywalk.com/talk/salon/messages/32867.html I'm going to call them and ask if I can get a consultation and appointment in the same week, and I hope they'll understand. Anyway your hair looks extremely healthy and shiny, so I'm sure I'll have no damage to worry about.

Hi crazygirl, actually I've always lived in Norther California. It's too bad because your salon is amazingly cheap, and your hair looks awesme. Actually I could probably fly there and back and still save money, but my family would think I was insane. Do you think she could refer me to someone in northern cali, or do you still have the list you found her from?
