I've been washing every 4 days alternating between s/c and co. No new products. I'm 5 weeks post relaxer. I'm not planning to relax again. I have flat ironed my hair twice in those 5 weeks. I have been wearing my hair in a ponytail (bad me) but I plan to do the baggie method. I don't have the right bags for the baggie method though.

Hey Layla and All,

I've been hearing much about the "baggie method".  What exactly is the baggie method?  What are the right types of bags to use for this method?

I did a search for "baggie method" and got a website that talks about growing plants & fertilizer & stuff .......LOL.

Any information that anyone has would be greatly appreciated.  If it is too much information to state here in the forum, just tell me where I can go and read more in  depth about this topic.

Thanks,

~Qwick

this is a link to DSD's album. there you'll see instructions on how to do the baggie method. DSD's album it helps keep your ends healthy. you can use anything on it before you tie the plastic on it. some people use vaseline. i used shea butter. some people do this all year round. it helps you retain any length you currently have.

ok- i guess it's time for me to update as well. i am doing well and so is my hair. I am still adding liquid aloe vera to my conditioner that i use for my co washes. My glycerine arrived today so i will be using it in the near future. I will keep you guys posted on that. My hair is growing in nicely and thickly. I got my ends clipped today and got my roots colored- boy did i need that done. Next thursday is my 35th birthday ya'll. I am so glad i went natural 2 years ago. The stylist loved my hair and the color and trim both came out great- she wanted to cut it in a style but i passed maybe on my 4th year nappiversary. My oils are working great too. Take care guys. Congrats oskana.

I just want to say that this forum is so helpful!  I wasn just telling my co-worker today that I didn't think I could go through without getting a relaxer.  After reading you guys posts and getting encouragement from everyone's pictures and results, I think I can do this!  I plan to try the baggie method.  Is there something besides shea butter & vaseline that I can use?  Maybe a hair grease or oil?  Anyhoo, I like the tree braids - I just gotta figure out how to do it or find someone to do it for me.  I am going to get my hair healthy no matter what!  In just two weeks, the Nioxin has thickened my hair tremendously.  Thanks for all the advise you ladies provide!

CaramelDiva-Your hair sounds lovely.  What color was your hair before?

Kbaby- You can do it! Also, you can use any oil that you wish. Just experiement with different oils...some individuals mix oils.   There are a variety of oils but olive oil, grapeseed oil and the list goes on. Hope that helps.

I would say that my hair is a soft honey blonde- that matches my skin tone(i'm brown skinned) and it really brings my complexion out. I went to Mastercuts at Potomac Mills Mall. this Lady named Neneh did my hair- i think she is african-but very good at her job- guuuuuuuurl she had everyone that sat in her chair- coming out looking like a diva. So am very pleased- i think i'll come back and see her again.

I forgot to ask - how often do you use the baggie method?  Nightly, weekly, after shampooing?  I did it last night for the first time - I have a huge jar of coconut oil hair grease (that I use for my daughter), so I used that.

CaramelDiva- Soft Honeyblonde sounds  really nice. Since you got a stylist that makes you feel and look like a super star, i don't blame you for going back.

I don't do the baggie method often enough. I basically just do it when I notice my ends are getting dry.

Currently I'm using the Protectives Line (for chemically treated hair).
1. Cleanser
2. 4 conditioners (moisture & strength, structure & strength, deep repair masque and scalp therapy) - I'm pretty sure I can do without all four, but I'm desparate!
3. Protectives treatment - a leave in that you use up to twice daily - tingles a lot
4.  Follicle Booster - another leave in - it's for excessive shedding and thinning
5. Silk Elixir - After washing & sometimes in between washings, to give hair really silky, smooth look and feel
6. Finishing creme - helps with occasional frizzies!
7. Oh, can't forget the vitamins

All this stuff smells great - the cleanser & scalp therapy smell like peppermint and the rest has a nice scent.  I usually comb my hair while the conditioner is still in it and I comb out a whole lot of hair.  When I washed it last night, I only combed out a little - big improvement!

Thanks, KBaby! Glad you're seeing improvement. I've been eyeing the Follicle Booster for quite some time now. I've been looking for something to help thicken my hair and I've good things about the F. Booster. But, checking out the website and reading about the other products, I may have to invest in a few more!

~thanks~

BrownEyez - you're welcome, Ma!  I ran out already, so I just went to eBay to get some more.  If you're interested, the seller I use is HairCaterer.  The website for their eBay store is

http://stores.ebay.com/HAIR-CATERER_Hair-Loss-Nioxin_W0QQssP ageNameZVIStoreHeaderLinksQQtZkm ?

I just purchased two, 1.0 oz bottles of Follicle Booster for $31.40 ($24.95 before S/H)!  Great price when retail is over $50 for one bottle!  Just thought I'd share if you wanted to buy there!  There are a few other sellers that I buy from as well.  The other products are very good as well - you might want to try the Treatment, the leave in conditioner that works well with the FB.

Hey, thanks again KBaby!  I'm going to check out the site right now! You mentioned the Treatment/leave-in works well w/ the Follicle Booster...funny, I was thinking of getting that and the FB to start. Hopefully, I'll limit myself to just those.  Anyway, I'm off to check out the site........  ~ta~

So I'm starting the challenge pretty late but I'm new here and just had to
join. My hair is to the nape of my neck but one of the big problems I have
is that it's not the same length all around. Towards the front, the hair
is only about 2 inches past my ears. Also, I have some breakage that I'm
coming back from around the edges.

My Goals:

 (1) Grow hair out (obviously!) My short goal is have it reach my
shoulders, my long term goal is to have it reach armpit length.

 (2) Reduce breakage

 (3) Keep hair shiny and well conditioned. No more dull strands for me!

I've only started doing my own hair about 3 week ago so I don't have much
of a routine, but this is what I've got so far. I'm on a budget and I'm
still learning so any suggestions you guys have would be great!

Routine: Wash hair 1-2 times a week. I tried using olive oil then doing condition-shampoo-deep condition, but that didn't work out well at all. Next time I'm keeping it simple and doing a simple shampoo-condition, then adjusting from there. I airdry my hair then use my Solia flat iron to get it straight (does anyone know of any good heat serums? Right now I'm using this herbal formula that isn't working, heatwise.)
Products: Okay I used to use grease, but after reading through this site, I realized they do more harm than good. So right now I'm using carrot oil, WGHO, and the herbal formula (contains jojoba, olive, castor, and coconut oils -- but it also has petroleum, so I'm not sure how great it really is). WGHO really helps with my breakage. Right now, I'm using VO5 shampoo/conditioner. It's the Hydrators Glacial Splash for added moisture. My scalp certainly isn't dry. But the problem is that my hair is really hard now. I think it's because of doing too much the last time I washed my hair. Still, I want my hair to be super soft. I've enjoyed the Garnier line and I may try out the Dove line.

So I'm still learning a lot but hopefully I'll get it in gear. Keep up the good advice guys, I really enjoy your advice. Thanks.
