wow they are making their own lace fronts? i would love to learn and also how to put them on. I had a AA woman come in the other day too, her hair on top was way to thin to do extensions on, i did tell her about a lace front, i told her if she let me practice on her i wouldnt charge her to put it on, i did however show her this stuff we carry in salon- its called X Fusion- its keritin fibers of human hair, its like flakes- we call them sprinkles. i filled in the top of her head and she was so jazzed, it covered the whole top.!
Ever heard of it? they are starting to adveritse it in the magazines too. We cant keep it on the shelves.
Tangles do you have a link for those sprinkles I tried to google it but could not find it. I have an aging aunt, who could really benifit from a product like that.
i love how this thread has gone- like Diva said- you crack me up~ you are so right about braiders Diva- i interviewd a stylist to come and assist in salon, she said she had been braiding since she was a little girl, and just got out of beauty school. Braiding those tiny teeny braids intrigues me to no end, but my hands would never work like that! That reminded me,a few weeks ago i did a consultation on a AA woman. She brought her little girl with her and ended up trying to teach me how to do a corn row, oh gosh was that ever fun. I couldnt do it... I give all braiders mucho credit. Its amazing how tiny and straight and tight.
Yep I told ya girl.. I have met VERY FEW licensed stylists that also do braids/weaves who have not been "doing hair" since they were little girls.. These are my FAVORITE kind of stylists.. They come to you with YEARS of experience under their belts, and they are usually the most creative and innovative stylists around.. So are you guys going to add a braider/weaver to the Tangles Salon staff?? How cool would that be!!

Remember just a while ago i was asking where i could learn?
How's that going?? Are you still going to pursue this??

I still want to learn how to do lace fronts though. Somewhere i watched a video on u tube, is it really that simple?
Yep it really is that simple.. It still requires a little skill and practice to make sure that the lace is flat so that the application looks natural.. But it's REALLY easy to do..

I was just on BHM, and I must have missed somethingShocked I wanted to see if the wig challenge---was for laced fronts but it sorta seemed like they were making wigs with closures and such, but I will look again I know MHRW sales a kit.
I would like to have a video, detailed, instructions, I hear it is quite tedious, but I would make my own if I just knew how. Smile
Toodles
The wig challenge you are talking about on the weave forum was for regular cap wigs.. But on the LaceFront forum there have been a few threads which discuss making lacefront wigs.. You could try doing a search, but I know the search function on BHM sucks.. If you try searching by subject, you might have more luck getting the search to work there.. The only catch is that not everyone creates subject titles that OBVIOUSLY indicate what the content of the post is about..

you would need to purchase this from a salon, or go to the ebay link they have some- i think topic is similar- it is really cool
Diva- i had a gal when we first bought the shop that did braids- she stayed with us for a couple of years, her friend opened up a smaller salon so she went with her- i refer her lots of clients to do weaves and braids. I wish i would of taken her up on her offer to teach me, but with trying to get salon together, and everything i let that opportunty go-
seeing how difficult it really is and trying it- i think at this stage of my career, i will pass on the braiding myself and hire someone to do that and i Do want to learn the lace fronts though. i think i just need to buy one and try it on someone, i dont even have a clue of what to look for when buying one.

Tangles if you change your mind about learning to cornrow check out the sites below. If you can plait/braid hair you can cornrow. I don't know about your area but out here in Maryland one of our community colleges teaches cornrowing techniques. Yours may too.
I've seen some how to dvd's and video's on eBay you can try those.
Nicole Lasher teaches a couple of classes online. I don't know how good it is but it's cheap.

Cool beans.. This is why I'm a confirmed salon princess.. I am not interested in this stage of my life in learning how to cornrow and doing my own installs..
As for "Lacefronts 101", a for GREAT place to start is the sticky notes in the lacefront section of BHM.. There is a lot of good information there.. It would be a great place to start getting the 411 on lacefronts.. Here's another down and dirty 411 link for ya: Lacefront Structure

Is this the same stuff guys were using to cover their bald spots a few years back? Invented by Ronco, the gadget guy?

Hey Tangles,
Drop a line to Matt Yeandle. His contact info and work is displayed here: http://www.beautybymatt.com/Wigs.html. There's some real nice looking pieces on the site.
I've been kicking around the idea of acquiring one as well and want someone in the U.S. to do it. Let me know if you're interested. Maybe we can strike a deal for two.
I wouldn't mind a before and after pic as long as my face was blacked out, I would want my face to be posted all over the web if my real hair was all jacked up. Besides, you know how we black girls can be. We wouldn't want the whole wide world to know that we were really baldheaded
I really should start previewing my posts so that I won't have to edit them
Sorry backtracking on this thread as I was just reading thru it, and had to post about the whole having your pic taken before and after for a stylist to use as a referral/example...
I think if the stylist wanted to take a photo, at LEAST have your permission to utilize a photo that you both agree upon, if the face isn't going to be 'blurred' out. The reason....I was recently looking at before/after photos on a stylist's site, and alot of these women had their eyes half closed, like they were high. The pics were obviously taken as they were in the middle of a blink. I really felt bad for the clients! If I was the stylist, I would've 'blurred' out the woman's face, just to prevent any possible embarrassment for her!

can you imagine their reactions when they saw their pics? You would think the stylist would want only the best ones but I guess beggars can't be choosey.
I agree MileHigh. Not to reopen that whole issue but I have actually never been willing to pose for a "before" and only let them take photos of the completed back. I dont know if that helps them much as I guess people could say it isnt extensions or she had a lot of hair to start with which I dont. Unless they use a digital cam of course, you have no idea what they snapped and what they are going to use. As an example I saw a photo on a website of a ladies' new install and her G-string was showing! It was all jacked up in the back and looked trashy. So even ones from the back could be awful!

And don't forget the weird looking women. I went to one site an most of the women looked like they were transexuals or on crystal meth. Blocked out faces are definitely a plus
Yeah some people are just plain strange looking and the extensions are really not helping matters heheh. Not all though. Ive seen some really beautiful women on those websites. Its a mixed bag.

Krimsa, mixed bag is right. I know at www.reniece.com her befores and after are amazing. While some look wild and shocking in their befores, their afters bring out their beautiful side. She has the pics taken by a professional photographer and the make up is done by a professional as well.
Wow, those are some beautiful weaves! I did not look at all the links before. A couple there are really close to how I would like my weave done. Where is she located? I could not find it on the site.
