I saw a guy wearing a mullet in Walmart the other day. Although the style may be dated, he looked good with it. He had healthy looking long hair in the back and the front and sides of his mullet were neatly kept.
Although generally speaking I'm not crazy about the mullet style, it has a nice sorta rebel feeling about it in that you don't see many (if any) "suits" wearing mullets.

Well I can't believe that there is a movie called Mullet Ville. I rented it and it was awful. It was someone filming a scene in someone's home. All about Bob. Bob was cute but his friends............
Well, I for one would not laugh in the face of Kyle Reese, Martin Riggs or MacGuyver. Unless one of them asked me out on a date, in which case I don't think I could help myself.
Demodoll, the reason the rebel flag is the mascot for southern rednecks is b/c 1) some of them truly believe the south will rise again, 2) there is a definite racist message in it, and 3) they really have nothing else to identify with.
Mullets are one of the most embarassing fads of the 80s. Right up there with legwarmers and Boy George.

Why is Boy George such an embarrassment? I thought he was cool. . . and still do, even after he got middle-aged and chubby and all. . . Yup, definitely I'm a child of the '80s. . . *laughs*

Say Kuroneko - you constantly put text like *shrugs* and *laughs* on the board. Are you attempting to use smilies? If so, those codes don't seem to be working on these boards. At least not on the computers I use.

Interesting, Duke. I see the various smileys (of course)
When you "reply" to a thread, do you have "Post Options" underneath the text box? (and, immediately under the text box, does it say "Smileys are OFF" or "Smileys are ON"?)
If they aren't there, and "AMB code" is ON, try this: surround the following words with square braces... you know, these: []
smile wink sad angel grin tongue shy excited
Otherwise, try to find how you can change your settings in "user options" (located in upper right corner of the window).
Acceptable browsers for Windows machines include Netscape 4.7x and higher, IE 4.x and higher. On the Mac, IE 5.x and higher or Netscape 4.7x.
God, Mullets are****ing disgusting. I actually sported one for awhile. Picture it, a chunky 14 year old with acne on top of a ruddy complexion and a curly, burgandy mullet. GAAAAAH. I can't believe my mom let me out of the house like that.

I am reading a translation of Swann's Way by Proust. In a recollection of childhood, the narrator talks about a man of his acquaintance who wore his hair in the "Bressant-style." The footnote reveals that "Jean-Baptiste Prsper Bressant (1815-86) was a well-known actor who introduced a new hairstyle, which consisted of wearing the hair in a crew cut in front and longer in the back." The translator could have just as well said that the Bressant-style"is popularly known as the mullet." Short in front and long in back is hardly a "new" trend.

Captain Japonica, I think it was cool for your mother to allow you to wear your hair the way you wanted to and why not! We often hear of parents preventing their children to express themselves so it is nice to hear otherwise.
kab, thank you very much. Its very interesting. A style that never died and I strongly believe that it will never go away.
To true, Diane. I don't know if there is a North American equivalent, but the word we Brits use to describe the mullet is: "NAFF." Naff means, the most uncool thing on the planet, what nerds aspire to, what would please your granny but never, ever, your girlfriend, get the idea? Thing is, I thought you were quite in favour of the mullet when this thread started out. Have you changed your mind, Diane?

Actually Diane, Captain Japonica wrote about his mother's strange behavior before and this included plunking hair dye on his head while he was reading. Perhaps Cap' can elaborate here.

Yeah, my mom was****ing psycho. I beleive I posted my experience with her dying my hair yucky colors before? She was actually very controlling and crazy, but around that age I had starting rebelling, which included me cutting bangs into my long hair(that she forced me to have at the time) and making a mullet-type style. When I saw the pictures a few years later, I had almost wished she had shot me with a tranquilizer dart and shaved my head to save me some pain. Thats how bad it looked, OK?
