Any feedback on thermal protectant products that anyone likes? Both for blow drying (more the final styling touches a round brush when hair is almost completely dry than the general drying) and/or after hair is dry and then using a straightening iron and/or curling iron.

I see lots of spray products to spray on before using a heat styling product, but I have to think they mean for you to dry your hair first..otherwise wouldn't it be more damaging using a heat product on wet hair?

Currently I'm using the Kerastase Nutri-Liss, which I do like, but I have to think there are less expensive options out there.

The only thermal protectant formulas I can think of would be Thermasilk...but I haven't really noticed anything extra special about it.
I have used Thermasilk in the past, and there wasn't really any noticeable difference for me, except for maybe hair that's less-heat damaged in the long run.

So, it might be worth giving a try to see if it makes any difference compared to what you're using now...it's one of the cheaper drugstore brands, so you wouldn't have much to lose if it didn't work out for you.

Good luck!

Nothing on the free market today can actually prevent all heat damage (Paula Begoun and Ruth Winter's books are good reads on this point.) BUT, you can somewhat slow the effects of heat by using conditioning products that coat the hair shaft and thus form a very slight barrier of protection. More importantly, these products can help with detangling and moisturizing which can lessen damage. I recommend using a rinse-off conditioner in conjunction with a leave-in. There's nothing special about Thermasilk in relation to heat except the evocative name. Therefore, the best you can do is find a leave-in product you like, regardless whether it claims to guard against heat damage.

Some great options:
*Aussie Hair Insurance (one of the best for dry hair: contains panthenol high in the ingredient list which is one of the best conditioning agents available.)
*Neutrogena Overnight Therapy (a good silicone-based spray, better suited for normal hair as opposed to dry)
*Jhirmack HeatCare (if you can find it, possibly discontinued)
*TreSemme 4+4 Keratin Splash (smells like medicine, so be warned!)
*KMS Daily Repair Leave-in Treatment
*Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Moisture Mist

Of all of these, Aussie is still my favorite after years of trepidation. It is great for my dry hair, and it is also less than $3. Bonus! I hope that helps.

I like "Wired" a styling product by Rusk. My hairstylist swears by it!! I absolutely love it. It gives lots of texture and coats the hairshaft. [If you see a little heat (smoke) coming off while you dry your hair it is actually the product, not the hair being fried!!!]
