How wavey or curly is your hair, and how short are the layers now?

my hair is a little wavy in the back, and the shortest layer is about to the bottom of my ear or so.

You could try putting the hair in the front in two barrets or pony-tail holders in the side. Or you could take little pieces of hair at the front and pin them back (barrets, bobby pins, pony-tail holders, whatever)- try twisting each little piece and then pinning it back. It might even work to pin little parts back towards the center of your head ALL AROUND your head- that would keep your hair up if it worked.
This might not work for your hair, but I know someone who twists up pieces of hair and pins them up- all over her head. It ends up looking really cool. So, try experimenting with pinning different little parts up.(I wish I could post a picture to show you, but I can't)

GOOD LUCK!

Your hair sounds really cute. It sounds like the way I have mine cut. I'm a guy and I have a latered bob that falls just below my ears with bangs. I love the versatility and movement of the style. It's great. When I need to do something to get it out of the way I either use one big long barrette and pull my hair up in the middle and on top of my head or I will take two barrettes and use one on each side. you could also try the fabric and elastic headbands. They work great.

With the activities that you do, you may want to try an angled cut in the front, adding layers for more texture and versatility. Base the angle on keeping your hair out of your eyes Etc. That may also release some wave toward the front so if you did not feel like blow drying it straight you could wash and go. Also texturizing (internal layers) help with fullness and styling options. Of course the other alternative is to go short all over, which is quick & easy to take care of and you can still play around with the look quite a bit.Keep us posted!!
