i need help with hair styles

I have hair that just barley sits on my shoulders and i can hardly do anything with it. I'm growing out my bangs and so they are always falling in my face of slipping out of my ponytail. also it is hard to do different stuff w/ my hair cuz i had it the same for so long. it was straight, long, and parted in the middle for several years of my life till i got it cut right below my chin. but now since i cut it, the ends always flip out and won't curl. i've had my hair layered and feathered before and don't want to do that again. i'm getting my hair cut in about a week so if you have any ideas on how i should get my hair cut(i look bad w/ really short hair), then please tell me and how i could my hair up in different ways.
