use wax!!!!!!! OR a ton of hairspray, and the style will only fall in an hour!!

Wax would be the best thing to use for a mohawk!
Inches don`t matter

I knew someone who once used egg yolks. It worked, but began to smell a bit after a day or so. I`d go for a stiff gel. Incidentally, in the UK, this style is known as a "Mohican" for some reason. I think that`s wrong cos didn`t they have long hair like Daniel Day Lewis in "Last of the Mohicans"?

use pomade or a mixture of vaseline and baby powder, but both these will take some time to wash out, so be warned!

Actually, if you want something that will last all day, use Elmer`s Washable school glue. It may take a while to dry, but if you use a blow dryer, it shouldn`t be long. Your hair will be stiff as a board! and it washes out easily.
