Average hair growth rate is 1/2 inch per month. Unless you're doing something completely wrong nutritionally (like making yourself malnourished), it's unlikely that there's anything you can do to change your natural rate of growth.
Did you think your hair would somehow grow in thicker than before you shaved it, or were you trying to get rid of damage that made it appear thin? What I recommend now is to wait til your longest ends get past your shoulders before you start trimming, and then trim no more than 1/2" a month to maintain your length and improve the ends, less often if you want to grow longer.
Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?

Sounds like your hair grows very quickly. Very quickly. So just let it grow until it's at least as long as you want it to be, and if you want to maintain a certain style/length be sure to communicate your desires clearly to your stylist.
