Hair texture

My hair is thick, naturally wavy, dry, some frizzies and somewhat coarse. I have been growing out my layers, so it is pretty much one-length to about my shoulders. Underneath is really becoming wavy and the top part is flat! I have a mix! I haven't had any kind of permanent in years, just natural curl. I currently am using John Freida "Frizz-Ease" and Phyto?? (some kind of frizz control stuff that works pretty good) to temporarily help smooth out my hair. I read somewhere about some kind of "safe" hair relaxer that is not too damaging to the hair. Does anyone know? Thanks!Margaret
