There has been a considerable fuss over this organisim "Demodex" DemodexFollicurum has been around for ever. Nioxin would have you believe that this bug isa cause of hair loss because it is found on all people that have thinning hair. Whatis very interesting however is that the bug is found on everyone past peuberty.check out www.hairsite.com they have a whole section on these mites pros and cons

Hi Deb,I just read a new product announement from Nioxin.Apparently Nioxin has introduced a line of cleansers and scalp serums called Semodex, created in response to new research that found a link between thinning hair and an enzyme called lipase that is produced by a common hair mite. These products, available in salons, inhibit the action of and remove the enzyme lipase from the scalp. In a study conducted and published by Nioxin, lipase was found in the hair follicles of 50 men and woman with thinning hair.Lipase adversely affects the condition of the hair and scalp, and removing it supposedly helps to create full, thicker, and healthier hair...according to Nioxin.Nioxin discovered this mite and its by-product, lipase using a newly-created hand-help microsocop that magnifies hair follicles up to a thousand times. The results of this hair mite/lipase study were announced at a recent international symposium of dermatologists by Dr. Willim Regelson, Director of the Successful Aging Program at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Medicine.I do not have any other facts about Nioxin or this new product line. This would probably be a good question for AskSpencer.I have heard mixed things about the Nioxin product line so I can't comment. I would love to hear feedback though. Thanks,Karen> Someone mentioned Nioxin in a previous message> and I'm wondering what is special about it? My former boyfriend (who had seriously thinning hair) used it for several months and he did not notice any difference. You are right. It was very expensive. It is supposed to be good for hair loss and to encourage a healthier scalp.Janelle> Someone mentioned Nioxin in a previous message> and I'm wondering what is special about it?
