Hi All!Well for awhile now I have been coming to the Hair B. My mom has seen my dedication with my hair growth and I have shared some insightful tips that have been posted by all. My mom has now decided to grow out her hair which has been just above shoulder length most of her life. I CAN'T BELIVE IT! Thanks to you!Okay, so here is the problem. Her hair grows like a weed (lucky her) but the longer it get's the thicker and heavier it is. Any thinning techniques that she could use without getting rid of the length?Jenna

Hi Jenna,Absolutely. A hairstylist can thin out the heavier, thicker parts of your mom's hair. If your mom decides to wear it all one length, they can thin the hair on the sides, in the back or even add some light layers to make it less heavy. However, are you sure that your mom wants to have her hair thinned? Did you see Noreen's hair and how thick it is? It is absolutely gorgeous.http://www.hiredguns.com/longhair/tips/tip038a.htmTell your mom congratulations and best wishes with her hair growing. Thanks for the great feedback. It made me smile. :-)Karen> Hi All!> Well for awhile now I have been coming to the Hair B.> My mom has seen my dedication with my hair growth and> I have shared some insightful tips that have been> posted by all. Does it damage the hair to thin it? I thought it needed to all be one length? I thik I read that somewhere?C> Hi Jenna,> Absolutely. Hi Jenna,Good for your mom! I hope she loves her long hair as much as I love mine. I can tell you from experience, that as my hair grew it seemed to be less thick. I know that it isn't really, but it looks that way. Maybe she will find the same to be true. I am jealous though. My hair grows very slowly. Tell her good luck for me.Take care,Noreen> Hi All!> Well for awhile now I have been coming to the Hair B.> My mom has seen my dedication with my hair growth and> I have shared some insightful tips that have been> posted by all. If your mom decides> to wear it all one length, they can thin the hair on> the sides, in the back or even add some light layers> to make it less heavy.BUT... if your mom's hair has any tendency to frizzyness or excessive fullness I would suggest not having her hair thinned or layered. I also have thick heavy hair and it frizzes and both thinning and layers were disasters for me. The thinning shears were particularly bad. They work by cutting maybe 1/2 of the hairs in each stroke... well that leaves you with a lot of shorter hairs up higher and thinner ends... but if your hair frizzes, all those short hairs on the top that don't have a lot of weight frizz worse. Yuck... You end up with hair that's full and frizzy near the crown and around your face, that looks all straggly at the ends.I've been happier with my hair all the same length... the weight tends to "pull out" a lot of the fullness and makes it more manageable.-jj

Hi!Wow! Thanks for all the postings! I'm TRYING to get my mom to grow it to the middle of her back or so. She has a full head of wonderful think hair. It is neither dry, frizzy, oily, damaged ( I have never seen a spilt end on it!). In other words, she has "normal" hair (in the sense of all the labeled hair care products). There is one thing though..... Mom can NEVER EVER, EVER use conditoner on her hair. It makes it flyaway, flat, and oily looking. She has never used conditioner and has perfect healthy hair. Lucky her, what happened to me? *lol*Jenna
