> Someone told me that if you don't cut your split ends> they can move up your hair. Is that true? How far> about the split should you trim?> Thanks. To Leeza; Yes split ends continue up the hair shaft and if not brought under control by regular trims, they can split all the way up the hair shaft, or can split off at least a definite distance up the hair shaft. This creates thin-looking fraigle hair, when a simple trim every 4-6 weeks could solve. Usually only 1/2 to 1 inch will have to be trimmed regularly, once the split ends are brought under control. It is much better to lose a little more initially than to not trim and lose a lot later! william

Dear Leeza,Although I don't have the type of hair that splits very easily, I am familiar with this problem since my best friend has had a problem with split ends for all of the ten years that I have known her. From my experience with her hair, the answer to your question is "yes", if you don't trim off those nasty little ends, they WILL travel up the hair shaft. Deep conditioning treatments will only help to temporarily (that is the key word here) seal the cuticle of your hair, but nothing besides a cut will ever get rid of split ends. I know that we gals out here tend not to get our hair trimmed regularly, but considering that hair grows about 1/2 inch a month, a trim of 1/4 inch a month does seem reasonable. Sure, we may only see 3 inches of growth a year compared to the 6, but in the end we'll all end up with healthier (and longer hair). Besides, three inches is actually a good amount. Go and talk to your stylist about your ends, I'm sure he/she will reccomend frequent trims. Good luck. P.S... if your ends are split only like 1/8 of an inch,... a 1/4 inch trim will do it (just keep it up!)
