Does anyone know if smashing birth control bill and putting them in your regular shampoo help hair growth? I know a person who actually claims this worked for her. I am skeptical about this...Anyone heard anything similar?

I heard the same thing from one of my teachers who is a doctor. I don't know if it really work and I have never tried it but I'd be interested in finding out. Does anyone know the specifics on this? How much do you have to use and what kind of results can be expected?
I suspect this idea originated because it is known that estrogen influences hair growth. I'm not an expert in this area, and I'm certainly not a doctor, but I'd recommend against using a technique like this to increase your hair growth - it probably won't help all that much anyway, and it could have unpleasant or even dangerous side effects. In the US, at least, birth control pills are available only by prescription. They aren't something to use lightly. Especially if you smoke, they can be dangerous.By the way, don't assume that you won't absorb the hormones through your skin, either. It's been suggested that the use of hormone-containing hair-care preparations may be linked to precocious puberty in some girls.Laura Janelswanson@sunflower.bio.indiana.edu
