Hi Mish! The end result of silicone build up is a dry, brittle feeling to the hair. However, if you have a light hand, silicone products can be wonderful for adding a silky feel and lots of shine. As a curlyhead, I have been using silicone serums for years, and have found that their benefit outweighs their negative side. Just remember that a little goes a long way. As for your question about ARTec, I happen to use the ARTec Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner and the ARTec texture creme and smoothing serum. The Conditioner does contain dimethicone, but it is almost at the bottom of the ingred. list (Unlike Pantene where it is second). There is also a form of dimethicone in the Smoothing serum, but again it's way down on the list. Neither the shampoo, nor the texturecreme contain any "cones". Be aware that the smoothing serum and the ARTec Moisture Pac both contain a form of Guar, which can build up on the hair (just use a clarifier if you have probs.) At any rate, all of the ARTec products are superb in my opinion, and you would be doing a great service to yourself, and your hair, if you decided to purchase some.Sherry

I already own and use the ARTec line and have good results, however, I've lately been experiencing itchy scalp with build up, something I've not had before and was wondering if it was the product or ingredients or just winter. Again, thanks for the response. Mish> Neither the shampoo, nor the texturecreme contain any> "cones".
