QuoteReplyTopic: HELP!!! My friends scalp is peeling! Posted: January 12 2000 at 3:49am
My friend has a hair problem. Her scalp peels, you can see her pores and the dead skin that falls off her head in patches, and sometimes it bleeds a little. Could this be dry scalp or dandruff or should she go see a dermatologist?

This could be alopecia or several other scalp disorders. Also. it could be caused by a chemical 'burn' that has occurred while coloring or perming incorrectly. This could be very damaging, don't wait! william

William,What if this only happens now and again, at infrequent intervals? Sometimes certain shampoos make my scalp itch and I even get little white crusts where it itches(don't mean to be gross, but I have to describe it accurately). It never lasts, though, although it has been so itchy that it bled a tiny bit. Then it just disappears for a long time. Does this sound like anything to be really concerned with? Thanks for your advice.Holly

See a dermatologist as you may have eczema, sebhorric dermatitis etc. I have had the very same thing happen to me over the last couple of years and I have used tar based shampoos (only around the hairline which is my affected area) and have had much success. You may simply be allergic to hair spray (which I am), but only a dermatologist can tell you that.Good luck!

Some can cause baldness among other things. If it is a very small place, you might try a medicated shampoo or switch from your regular one to another, and see what happens. You may have developed an alergy to a certain ingrediant that is in your shampoo/conditioner. william
