Help. I pull my hair when i'm nervous. I read a spot on this site that said it was Trich. one side of my head is starting to seem thinner than the other. i was thinking that i'd get a wig, while taking very good care of my real hair in a effort to quit. will this help? Thanks.
> Do yourself a favor and do a search on the web under "Trichotillomania" or "Hair Pulling" I have been pulling my hair out for 15 years!! When I learned that there are ALOT of people who suffer from this, that made me feel better. I have not pulled my hair out for 4 MONTHS! Do you know what made me stop? When I noticed that my 17 month old son was beginning to pull on his hair the same way/place I was. That scared me. Anyway, it is a very hard condition to stop, but I BELIEVE IT IS POSSIBLE. I will say that it is very tempting for me to pull my hair out on certain days, but I try and stick to it and I have been successful so far.GOOD LUCK!

Check out www.fairlight.com, the website for Fairlight Consulting. They have info, a BB and links on Trich. Personally, I had to talk to a therapist for a few months to work some things out and to gain control of my life. Once I felt in control and I took steps to reduce stress, I stopped pulling or at least could recognize when I was doing it to make myself stop. And a wig may help. You will see from the BB's you will find if you research this that people have used a lot of different strategies to stop. It requires tremendous willpower and sometimes you have to try a few strategies before you find one that works for you-- kind of like quitting smoking. You have the control, Leah, you just need to grow to believe it. Be good to yourself, check it out and God bless you.> Help. I pull my hair when i'm nervous.
