I am 30 years old, and have recently started to notice a "few" grey hairs. By few, I mean just that...very few, but just enough that I know they are there and I don't like them!! My hair is just below shoulder length, medium/dark brown, and I want to keep it that way. My question is, how do you cover the first signs of grey hair without completely changing your hair color? I want the safest, most minimal process! I like my hair color, and don't want to change it. I just want to tone out the grey. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks for listening!Belinda

belinda:i can suggest three things:a) for the most natural color effect, it's generally best to stick to semi-permanent rather than permanent hair colors. there are many brands out there, so you should be able to find a shade that closely matches your color.b) one brand i've found to be super gently and natural looking is "Naturcolor." It's an italian brand (cool box with a funky hand logo on it) that I find many places here in NYC. Health food stores often carry it because it is herbal-based. UNlike many herbal hair coloring products, however, it has no henna, and it does not give you a flat, matte color. I've found it to be non-damaging and predictable. This is, however, permanent coloring. Despite that, I've found the colors to gradually fade, and blend into my natural hair color without the usual noticable "line."c) if you've never colored your hair before or are simply worried about getting the very best results, have your hair color done in a professional salon, by a colorist.hope this helps! please email me if you want to discuss more. i'm a hair-coloring veteran. silvie.

> Sylvie:Thanks for your advice which I too appreciated.I wonder if you can give me some more.1. I have tried to find a website for Naturcolor, but there is none. Any ideas on where to get it?2. I have had my hair highlighted for over ten years and now want to possibly stop that and work at covering gray. Is there a way to color gray and make your own hair lighter at the same time? I am a dark mousy blonde and like the golden, buttery blonde look. Thanks for your help.

hi Laurieas far as getting Naturcolor. i suggest calling around to different Health food stores. Because it's a natural, herbal-based product, health food stores often carry it in their cosmetics section. Call around to see who might carry it in your area. It's possible they can order it for you. I'll look to see if i can find a phone number for them (on the back of a box or something).about going lighter & covering gray at the same time--sure, you can do this! it may require extra mixing and separate application of the color onto the gray root area, versus the non gray area. any good hair color will give you extra instructions about doing this. With the Naturcolor, for example, i believe they recommend you buy two shades and blend the two, to adequately cover gray, plus achieve the desired shade.I hope this helps, laurie. once again, i'll try to check a Naturcolor box and send you a phone number or some other info.silvie

> Thank, Silvie. I checked out their website and am delighted with the sound of this color! It sounds too good to be true. No fading, no build up, covers gray, gives highlight effect. You can go lighter than your own shade but with only 3% ammonia.Have you tried it yourself? What is the actual effect. Thanks a lot

hey LaurieI've never gone lighter than my natural hair color, but I have used this product to cover my gray (i have very little) and found it to be quite effective. i imagine if you call the Naturcolor hotline, they would be able to give you some tips or advice for going lighter/covering gray simultaneously.I know that the box suggests, if you have a lot of gray, to prep that gray area (soak a cotton ball in developer and apply to gray) before you apply the color. i believe they suggest letting this sit for about ten minutes before applying the color. This process is fully explained in their general instructions.again, i would just call their 800 number and ask them what they recommend. I wish i could tell you more, but I've never tried to go lighter. nevertheless, I have always had great results with this product, so I suspect you'd get great results, too.good luck! silvie
