Hello :)Just wondering, does anybody else here have something called sebborheic dermatitis (It can be oily or dry scalp with flakes, itching, sores which look like little painful pimples, and crusting - ouch!)? What products have worked for you in providing some relief from this condition? I have sebborheic dermatitis, but sometimes I can go days or weeks without flare ups and when it's not acting up, I will use Aubrey Organics which works well for me. Unfortanately last week I had a major flare up. In the past, I used coal tar shampoos but heard that ingrediant can be a possible cancer causing ingrediant. I'm interested to know, if anybody else has this condition? How do you treat it? And if natural products work for you? Thank you. I really appreciate it.MariaRelated Link:Maria In Mass
Hi Maria :)Just thought I'd let you know that I am a fellow sebborheic dermatitis sufferer. I was told that by one doctor and another told me I have psoriasis. I'm not even sure what the difference is between the two. I've tried everything from jock itch medication(prescribed) to tar shampoos to prescribed shampoos, none of which helped.I've been using Aubrey Organics also, but they don't seem to help either. I've used the Calaguala shampoo, which is supposed to be for scalp problems, but it didn't seem to do much. What products do you use, especially during the bad times?Years ago I ordered a product called Skin Cap. It got rid of the flakes and it started clearing up. But, you have to keep using it or it will come right back just like before. The main ingredient is pyrithione zinc and I've heard that this is a harsh chemical, so I'm leary of getting more--that and the price is $30 or $40 for 100 ml.One thing that seemed to help a little is flax seed oil. I take it in capsule form so I don't have to taste it.Well, I hope I've helped some. Let me know what you've been using and how they're working for you.Dawn

Dawn and Maria ...The active ingredient in "Head and Shoulders" is that "pyrithione zinc" that Dawn mentioned. Do you think it would help to let it sit on your head for a little while (since I'm sure it is in a less concentrated form than the expensive stuff)?I think I might get flare-ups of what you two have ... but to a much lesser extent. It seems to help to change conditioner when I get them (like maybe I get allergic??). I use the Head and Shoulders shampoo mixed with a little of "Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree Special Shampoo" to add a little itch relief.Hope this helps ...Kat
Hi Maria & Kat!Have either of you tried that Nizoral shampoo that they've been advertising. I've been wanting to, but I'm afraid it will just be another thing that will end up sitting around collecting dust.Let me know.Dawn

Dawn -I haven't tried it, but I have used Nizoral (prescription strength) on this other skin condition that I have called Tinea Versicolor. It works great on that. But I'm not sure how it'll be as shampoo. Check the ingredients first ... it may be the same as Selsun Blue. I'm not sure though, so check first.

Hey Dawn!Funky spots that are about as dark as when you get a suntan. But when you get a suntan, they turn white. They show up when you get warm (like during summer) or are under stress. They don't itch or hurt, they just look funny.:-)
Okay,I feel really dumb because I just posted to Maria above about Nizoral.Nizoral has worked pretty well for me. My scalp is dry and itchy due to medication, but using this stuff like it directs (3-4 times a week as needed, then only as needed) works like a charm for me. I use it about once or twice a week now. Very little itching and flaking. This week is a little worse, but like I said to Maria, this may be due to the changing weather.The active ingrediant is Ketoconazole 1%. Yeah.The pyrithizone zinc in Pantene's dandruff shampoo worked well for my scalp, too, unfortunately, it also equalled really, really limp hair.Try the Nizoral if you can, I think it's about the same price as Neutragena (sp?), 8-10 bucks for 4 oz. bottle that's still going since I bought it in August.Take care,Alexandra
