There are a number of methods to achieve temporary dreadlocks. Here is one (with pictures) used by the Redken salon in NYC. http://www.redken.com/nycstyle/chriskris02.cfm

Hello! I don`t know what the products are, but maybe this will help you, and maybe it will. I hope that it does. To get a dreadlock "look", take a small section of hair, spray it with hairspray, twist it around, and then spray it again. Voila! Instant dreadlocks, but without the lasting results. I sure hope that this helps you!

I`ve heard there are products that give you the dreadlock look without the permanent tangles of actual dreads. Although I`ve heard of this from numerous places, I have no idea what the products are. Any ideas?
