    Posted: September 02 2003 at 11:10pm
I have been trying to reduce the number of times I blow dry my hair per week, so instead I'm using large and soft cushioned hair rollers and let my hair air dry. I would prefer the Velcro hair rollers (LARGE), and am wondering where to purchase them.

Does anyone else use these, and if so, do you have problems with tangling? If not, do you like the results you get? I'm in the process of trying to grow my hair long, and am going to minimize my usage of curling irons, hairspray, blowdryers, etc. and needing to find alternate ways to style my hair so I can achieve longer hair.

Any info. is appreciated!

Kris :)

Sally's has a nice selection of Velcro rollers like this set:

http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/product.asp?dept%5Fid=2210&pf%5Fid=235445

If you don't have a Sally's near you, I can recommend a few web sites that carry them.

I know some people that swear by (not at) their Velcro rollers. They have relatively fine hair and say they are the only rollers that will stay in their hair. The only thing I noticed about them is you have to be VERY CAREFUL when removing them. They must be UNROLLED and not just PULLED out. If you take them out as carefully as you put them in, you should not have a problem.

Hope this helps. Happy styling!

Just in case you couldn't find the large velcro rollers in your area, try this site:

http://www.cachebeauty.com/velcro.htm

I have used them in the past with very good results. The good thing is you can get just the number and size you want (up to 3 inches in diameter).

You can also make your own rollers (up to 4" in diameter) with this set:

http://shop.infomercial.tv/hair_care/maxius_hair_care/maxius_adjust-a-curl_adjustable_velcro_rollers/

Of course, Sally's sells a similar product too.

Hope you find what you are looking for and it works well for you.

Have any of you tried the Jet Set EZ grip curlers?? Here's a link... they have them at Sally's:

http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/product.asp?dept%5Fid=2210&pf%5Fid=772502

I use these and like them a lot. They don't get tangled in my hair like the velcro ones use to.

Hope this helps.

Kateyez and Crazygirl:

You are both beautiful women from your photos with lovely healthy looking hair.
Crazygirl you look Asian, in fact you look a little like my wife who is also an Asian-American woman from California. We live in Marin county just across the bridge from San Francisco. The only difference between you and my wife in apperance is that you wear your hair long and my wife wears very short hair.
Good luck with your hairdos ladies. Best to all of you.

Thanks so much Merlin, Becky and Brent! I copied the links that were given so I can order from them next time.

There is a Sally's just 5 minutes away from where I live, so I decided to purchase the Velcro rollers there, but I think I bought too large of a size. I wanted to add volume and a bit of a wave (not tight curls), and I ended up getting just a very straight look, although very voluminous.

Next time I'm going to get a size smaller and see how that works. I noticed I needed double what I purchased because my hair won't fit into the curlers unless there is a small amount of it. The more hair you put in the roller, the more risk you get of tangles if you've rolled too much hair. BTW, I didn't have any problems at all taking out the rollers, and my hair looked MUCH healthier afterwards, with no hair caught in the rollers. The only thing is that the Velcro doesn't hold my hair, and I ended having to use 2 bobby pins on each roller to get it to stay up.

Anyway, thanks again for all of the feedback. :)

My pleasure Kateyez37. Glad to be of some small service.

It certainly sounds like you got rollers that were too large and a smaller diameter will give the results you are looking for. I am also happy to hear that you didn't have any problem removing the rollers (perhaps because you didn't have a lot of hair on each roller). That is the only complaint I have heard about the Velcro rollers so please be careful when you use the smaller rollers.

Since you have a Sally's so close to you, I can highly recommend the L'Oreal Nature's Therapy Mega Moisture conditioner when you are in the market for a good deep conditioner. It works without a heat cap and produces terrific results in just a few minutes. Terrific stuff!!

Happy rolling and I hope you get the volume and waves you are seeking.

Merlin, I have been looking for a good quality deep conditioner for awhile now, so I'm so glad you mentioned the L'Oreal Nature's Therapy Mega Moisture conditioner. Next trip to Sally's, I will most definitely pick some up.

Thanks again!

If I had been a little quicker I would have included Sally's description of Mega Moisture:

http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/product.asp?pf%5Fid=500342&dept%5Fid=1215

I have to start going to bed sooner.
