I was impressed by everything I found on Garnier Nutrisse, especially after learning it is the top selling home haircolor in Europe.
However, did the strand test and for some reason the ammonia fumes made my eyes burn like crazy and they started tearing something awful. No other strand test did this to me (remember those tests-they're very important!). Called the company and the rep said definitely don't use it and refunded my money. I was really depressed about it though, they have nice shades and the scent is very pleasant.
Each formulation is different, even within the same company. So glad I found out about how Garnier affected me before I did the entire head!
hydrience works pretty well it lifts colour however i got the reddish tons buit i end up loving it though i was trying to achieve light brown. so i went from dark borwn to a pretty reddish colour and it is acctually a quite bit lighter than before. the amazin part it did not dry my hair out the damage was soo minimal and after a few deep conditioning treatments my hair is soo soft and i would say even softer than before!
I prefer Loreal Superior Preferance cuz it leaves you with lots of highlights and the shades look really natural but it always fades so fast even though it is permenant, especially if you are using it to darken
I would try Feria in Amber Shimmer... it's a light bronze brown... I've always liked it... And if your hair is naturally medium brown (not dyed), then it should lift enough to get to light brown... I think they use 20vol peroxide in feria, not sure though...

I don't think it's possible to color your hair without damaging it at least a little.
I like Garnier dyes. Belle Color, Nutrisse and what's the one in the blue box... Open? No... LUMIA. That's a good one. It's probably the best.
I dyed my hair with the above products for many years. For the past year, I've been lightening my roots with Beach Blonde Sun Streaks, which I think is just for blondes. I think it may turn brunettes orange.
I don't think my hair is very damaged. There are pictures on my webpage, which is linked in my profile (Click below).
Hope that helps!

I want to lighten my med brown hair a couple of shades. Dark blond- light brown. Any suggestions on what home hair colorings are best and most gentle? I have never lightened my hair before but have colored it using Robert Craig hair color but that won't lift color to lighten. My hair is in good condition and I would like to keep it that way. Thanks
