I have been going to the same great stylist in a city salon for over 2 years.
I have been really happy with him and he never cuts too much off. I have long hair all the time.
Well I decided to go to a local stylist not far from my home that a friend recommended.
I have long hair that is nearly down to my bra strap.
I asked her to cut 2 inches off and showed her where I wanted it to sit.
Well she cut the length and then she cut the length again and then again till she had cut 5 inches off.
So now it doesn't touch my shoulders, when I always have it sitting on my shoulders at the very shortest.
It is a chin length blunt looking bob and just hangs short with no movement.
She said she broke it all up but hasn't done a very good job. I don't ever have my hair blunt as it doesn't suit me.
I said to her it's too short. She said sorry. I collasped in shock. My husband is sick of me moaning about it. I wont be going back to the salon ever again. My hair just fits in a ponytail which is a saving grace. It will take a year to grow back and in the mean time I am very annoyed and have no confidence.
I need some advice from people that have gone thru the same experience or are going thru the same hair hell right now. Thanks.

That is just awful. I am so sorry to hear about this. I hope that you will call that stylist and give her an earful about what she did to you. At the very least you should get your money back.

The only thing I would recommend at this point is to give it some time. I know - not what you want to hear! But you said you can put it back in a ponytail, so that is good. Try wearing it back for awhile - out of sight, out of mind, right? As it starts to grow back, you can find different ways of styling it.

If you really can't live with it, you can always do extensions. But if you go that route, make sure you research carefully - finding the right stylist and extension type for your hair is key to having a good experience. Honestly, though - I really think you just need time to get used to the new length.

Good luck and sorry again. I've been through this many times and I can assure it does get better, it just takes time.

Bobbed, it is astonishing a regular stylist couldn't cut the most basic cut. Every school starts with what you aksed for (log hair - straight cut). Is there no way (professional organisation) to complain about this incompetency?? Worth to check out! I sincerely hope you didn't pay her ...

In the mean time, take good care of your hair: wash and condition not too much, use a keratin rich conditioner (=expensive, but worth the money if you want your hair to grow back in good health), try to let it dry naturally, don't brush too much and be on the lookout for split ends. It may hurt to have (a good) stylists trim the very points, but it saves you from worse (more length lost) later on. Should you get split ends, try to find out the reason why they popped.

Best of luck and do something about that stylist - a disgrace for the profession.

If you're worried about the blacking out, go see a doctor. I have never blacked out because of my hair, or because of shock, but another time I was scared I did. So, it may have just been that, but it wouldn't hurt to have it checked out if you're worried about it (and especially if it happens again).

I had a bob recently too, I didn't like it either. I found wearing a barette on each side made it tolerable because it got it out of my way so I could forget about it for awhile until it grew more. Try to experiment with it and find some way to enjoy it while you've got it...you could try curling it at night and see if you like that look (will make it poofy and cute). Or use henna (only if your hair is undyed) to experiment with temporary color to make it more interesting for you while you wait.
