Topic: hair layering for curly hair Posted: May 05 2003 at 12:26pm
Help, my favorite hairdresser has moved and no one seems to know what his technique was called, let alone do it. He would twist chunks of my hair and then use a straight razor to cut into the twist, by doing this my hair would by curly when I wanted it and when I wanted it straight the layers were underneath so little pieces didn't stick out all over the place. Does anyone know what this technique is called.

Ouidad was the pioneer of this method. I don't know if there's a specific name for it but you can check at www.ouidad.com (I swear I do not work for this company!).
Anyway, I had the same thing done and I did not like the result at all. It's supposed to take weight off the bottom of your hair so the top isn't flat, eliminating the so-called triangle head. But for some reason (maybe because the bottom was thinner?) it made the ends less curly & more frizzy.
