I would like to know what do you all feel about trims, and how often do you think they should be done?

I`m asking because I`ve always been told that you must always keep your hair trimmed, etc. But I came across a lady on a website named Cathy Howse who says that she never trims her hair and yet her hair is like bra strap length. When I was younger, I never got trims and my hair was longer then. Which do you all think is better for growing hair long, trims or no trims?

Karonica,

Personally I think trims are overrated. Why trim hair that is not damaged? Most professionals say to keep the ends trimmed every 6-8 weeks simply as a proactive approach. Meaning, trim to prevent split ends from happening. But if my ends dont need a trim I`m not going to trim simply because they MAY become damaged. I follow the Cathy Howse system and have been for 5 months now. My hair has grown almost 3 inches in 5 months and my ends arent split. Why? because Cathys system promotes healthy hair. So if you`re treating your hair right i.e no heat, overprocessing etc....then you will find that you wont need to trim as often. Cathy never trims her ends, however, I trim just to even my hair out like every 16 weeks (4 months). I used to trim every 6 weeks like the professionals say and it took me forever to grow my hair. When I do trim it is only 1/8 of an inch which is barely anything......LOL . Dont get me wrong though,if your hair is damaged by all means trim the damage off and start from scratch but if its not then let it grow, grow, grow.

I agree with Tee---trim only as needed. If your hair is in good health, you should be okay as long as you check for split ends on a regular basis.
