I don't have much new to report, except that I put a texturizer in my hair  I was about 10 weeks post relaxer when I decided to use it.  It pretty much did the same as the relaxer would normally do, but my hair is just not as straight which is fine with me.  I just wanted something that would allow me to comb my hair without it breaking so much I had about 1.5 inches of new growth and am now 3 inches from BSL .  I was tempted to cut it all off before that b/c I was in the hospital with my little boy for about a week and had not time or patience to do my hair So I'm actually happy with the results of the texturizer - I used Pink Shortlooks (I think that's the name).  It makes me feel like I am still on the road to success with my hair - I would have felt defeated had I gotten the relaxer I chose that one b/c that's the relaxer brand I normally use.  I still plan to stretch the time in between chemicals, but when I do, I plan to use the texturizer (probably for Christmas).  I should be getting braids this weekend - by the way, anyone know how to do tree braids?  Oh well, hope everyone is doing well in their journey to healthy hair!  I'm still hanging in there

Kbaby is your little boy ok?? Hope so. Three inches from brastrap will be reached in no time. I was wondering what the results of a texturizer would be. I didn't know you could use it without cutting the relaxed parts of the hair out.

doing good- no more breakage and i have seen growth so my improved regimine is bringing me growth. Today i did a pre-shampoo treatment of avocado butter and nutrine garlic oil treatment w/ heat. I shampooed with Queen Helene Garlic shampoo (2 times), conditioned with Nutrine garlic conditioner, then applied toque agico intensivo treatmiento emrgencia(i used this as my deep conditioner w/ heat). Afterwards- i spritz my hair with my glycerin/water/jamaica blac castor oil mix and applied some nutriwell pure aloe vera gel(brown, liquid and all natural) and i had great results. I am so loving my hair right now.

Carameldiva- Good to hear about your progress! Your ingredients make me hungry... I don't know why but it does. Have u use the Jamaican castor oil alone and what has it done for you?

Cmesweet, I'm losing hope! I just want long, healthy hair on my
shoulders. I know I just started taking care of my hair but I want it now!

Okay, so here's the thing -- I was experiencing some extreme breakage
and I didn't know why. Then I checked the ingrediants of the peppermint
oil i was putting in mtg and found out there was some alcohol in it. I
trashed that stuff. Now with no alcohol, I'm hoping the breakage will stop.
I want to try a protein treatment but I'm honestly really worried...I've
heard such bad things about them. Until I find one that doesn't seem
bad, I'm staying with my salerm 21 as my own form of protein.

To cheer me up from the breakage, I went out and bought some products
I bought Capilo Sole and Cinnamon Rinse, Capilo Honey and Milk
Rinse, and Star Lacio Lacio . I'm not too sure what they mean by "rinse"
but I read the directions they had on sickbay and it seemed to act like a
regular conditioner so I bought it. I'm waiting for those to come.

One technique I used last week (that i learned about right here!) is putting
some conditioner on my dry hair then shampooing up. It worked out
really well and I'll prolly do this from now on. Plus it uses up conditioner
that I'm not crazy about.

I do have a question for everyone. I'm natural and I'm just wondering if
there is there a way to get my hair straight without using a flat iron or any
heat? I've heard steam rollers work but I don't think my hair is long
enough. If that is not the case, then how do I get some really defined
curls? If I am correct, I'm going to need to buy some curl pudding...can I
get defined curls without heat (I'm trying to get away from it). Thanks!
Good luck to everyone!

Hey cmesweet- ty for your kind words. Yes- i have used the jamaica black castor oil (it is brown in color) alone- it softens my hair and has definitely made it even thicker than it already was. I colored my hair the beginning of sept and i see at least an inch of new growth. I also have some sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil, coconut oil and evening primrose oil over here too.

Oh- hang in there canopy- i had some breakage too- mine was stress related- i started moisturizing with the glycerin/water/ rosemary oil or jamaica black castor oil mixture, adding liquid aloe vera to my conditioners and oiling my scalp/hair at nite with some good essential oils and all of these things have helped a great deal. I also started shampooing twice a week and deep conditioning one of those two times- using pre-poo treatments such as castor oil and adding protein treatments into my regimine. Try some of these you should see improvement soon.

Thanks carameldiva. I've heard nothing but good things about castor oil
so I'm hoping to pick some up and grab some essential oils...i heard good
things about sweet almost oil so i'm gonna give those two a try and see if
i can't find a good protein treatment. do you have a suggestion for one?
thanks!

Protein treatments- i use three different ones: Lamaur's bone Marrow- this would be a lite protein treatment, Jherri Redding's 100% Natural Protein Conditioner- this would be considered a heavy protein and Toque Agico Emergencia treatmiento intensivo capilar- i think this is also a med/heavy protein treatment. The first two i purchased at Sally's beauty supply and the last one is a dominican product that everyone including me after today raves about- i got it at www.ibeautyny.com - i used it with heat and my hair responded well. It did not make my hair hard at all. I have had good results with all three. Hope this helps.

Caramel- Well I might look into the black castor oil...I want to try the  regular castor oil first. Maybe in a week or so, I will try it, especially since I just ran out of olive oil.

Canopy- Hang in there girl... I know how badly you want it long right now, cause that's how I feel sometimes.  Have you tried using a reconstructioner for your hair...that may stop breakage, or atleast, slow it down. I recommend Suave 2 minute recovery reconstructioner  or v05 oasis repair.

Hang on canopy!! I know how breakage can be. I just recently went on a dominican product spree but with good results. I have the Garlic Shampoo, Capilo Honey and Milk conditioner and Rinse, Sole and Cinnamon Con. and Rinse and Salerm21 protein treatment. I love them all and my hair responded well to all of it. The Garlic Shampoo is good with breakage as well. I plan on doing more conditioning washes this winter since my hair tends to dry out more than I would like it to. If you have any questions (which we all do) please feel free to post.

Honeydoo, I'm glad you're reporting good responses from the Capilo products, that makes me even more excited for them to arrive

Caramel -- Thanks for the tip on the Toque Agico. I buy most of my products online since I'm in the middle of nowhere. I will try to incorporate this into my routine, hopefully starting next week after I give my hair some moisture, if it is still breaking.

Cmesweet, I was looking at the VO5 oasis repair today at the store and I'm kicking myself because I didn't buy it, only to come home and read your reply. Guess it shows I need to be on this forum all the time or else i'll miss something. Next time I get a chance to go back, I'll pick some up, thanks for the reply.

You guys, thanks for your sweet responses. So much information, as always. I went out and bought NTM deep recovery hair mask and I'm going to try a deep conditioning tonight. Believe it or not, this is my first deep conditioner I've bought. Sometimes I would leave in conditioner longer before I rinsed it out -- that was my idea of a deep condition. But looking at the thickness of this hair mask and the smell makes me realize that my hair has been missing out on some goodness. I suspect part of the reason for breakage is stress and dryness as the seasons change. So I'm gonna do a very intensive moisture routine for the next week or so. I plan on starting with conditioner on my hair, then shampooing, then deep conditioning. Hopefully, I'll have some growth to report after this as well as no more breakage.

It's good that you found something that worked for you. Glad that you gave us an update.

SORRY FOR THE LATE RESPONSE - BEEN SO-O-O-O-O BUSY!  Hi & thanks!  My son is doing ok!  We are battling right now over what he can eat as a snack!  That's the only hard part about all this - well, that & knowing that he has to stick himself all the time.  Hopefully it will get easier with time!

As for my routine, still using Nioxin!  The texturizer did what I wanted - not too straight but much easier to maintain.  I bought Pink Shortlooks and the spray that goes with it.  I also bought this stuff by Soft & Beautiful.  It's a light moisturizer that smells like mango - awesome scent and makes my hair really soft.  Taking vitamins again and trying not to use heat except for sitting under the hair dryer once a week.  I did use heat a lot this past weekend because I went to a wedding and couldn't figure out what to do with my hair!

Anyhoo, I hope ya'll are all doing ok with your hair care!  Until next time, have a wonderful day

I haven't really been wearing protective styles for the past 2 weeks. I know it is still growing. We had a gathering the other day, the turn out was ok but I gave away lots of product samples, which included, motions, doctor miracles, loreal. I have loads of it...maybe i should charge for it !  Anyways, I plan on wearing my hair out all this week.I really enjoy my hair...I love it. Next week, twists for me. I love twists!

Cmesweet, sound like your doing good! I'm glad your happy with your hair. Ultimately that's what it's about right? I guess it's time for updates huh? I've been M.I.A. for a few days because of midterms. Anyhoo, here's my update:

I've been using Capilo Sole and Cinnamon Rinse and Conditioner along with Garlic Shampoo, and Honey and Milk Rinse and conditioner for the past few weeks. My hair has remained soft and more manageable than before. It smells nice too! Last Thursday was my birthday so I wore my hair down all weekend. But since then I've been washing twice a week. One of those days is a conditioner wash with one of the rinses. My shedding has cut down, too. I've been putting my hair into two braids at night and then un-braiding and wearing it up in a clamp. It's quick and easy for me. I'm only 3 weeks post relaxer and I have "feelable" new growth. So far so good. Oh, and the Salerm 21 is a God sent for me. I'm not quite sure how you're suppose to apply it, but I use it as a leave in and moisturizer.

Other than that, I'm just happy midterms are over and I survived it all!! How is everyone else doing this month?
