I had my hair straightened on Dec. 18,2003 and I love it. My hair dresser did a great job. I used to have curly cotton ball hair the was very curly in the back and wavy in the front and straight on top and under neath. It was horrible. I couldn't leave it down and had to wear it up every day. Now I never wear it up. The only problem I have is that the back (where it is the most curly) looks like it may be kinking a little bit.... I am going to call my hair dresser and see why it might be doing that. I was wonder if anyone knew where you can buy the CHI products at a reasonable price? I want to use their products so that this straightening will last as long as it can. I love it and don't want to go back to cottonball curly again. Thanks for any help.

Since your natural hair has different textures and curl patterns (curly in the back. wavy in the front, and straight on top), you’ll notice that the best part after TR is 1) The straight sections of your hair. 2) The wavy sections of your hair. 3) The very curly sections! In fact this is a challenge to almost all TR technicians, and there is only so much a TR stylist can do. It is a good idea to bring this to your TR stylist’s attention. Nonetheless, I think it is also good to listen to his/her advice. Over all, and from your description, it seems that your TR stylist did a very good job.

The reason why the very curly sections of your hair is starting to curl a little is because thioglycolate (chemical ingredient in all TR products) has a low pH, therefore it doesn’t, and it cannot completely straighten the hair. Having said this, if your hair is not highlighted and if your hair can tolerate it, next time, your stylist can use a higher pH TR product (stronger solution) on the very curly sections. Also, the hair must be 80% damp before the ironing compression and use higher heat: say, 200 degrees Celsius, but only on the very curly parts of your hair. This will help get the hair straighter in those sections.

At-home, shampooing your hair; the water should be not too hot not too cold. Make sure you do not use hot water. This may cause reversion.

By the way, using or not using the CHI hair care products has nothing to do in maintaining your hair straight for as long as possible. Personally and from experience, I find that Redken’s All Soft Shampoo, All Soft Conditioner, All Soft Heavy Crème Treatment works pretty good on TRd hair. If you want to go a step further, you’ll find All Soft Soft Ends Leave-In Treatment and All Soft Addictive are great too. In addition I also like the ID CARE Shampoo, ID CARE Treatment and the Silk Lotion is an excellent choice as well. I don’t like the CHI hair care line, but this is my opinion.

Thank you for your help. I also don't care for the chi shampoo & conditioner. I do like the kertine mist and silk infusion. My hair is very soft and shinny and for my hair to be like that it is a miracle! I have very course thick hair. I am going to try the Redken products that you suggested. Thanks again. Snoopy
