This information will eventually be added to the FAQ at the top of the forum.  For now it will be here in case anyone wants to add info.

What is the difference between a wave cap & a doo rag (also known as a durag, rag, dorag).?

There is no difference.  They are basically the same thing.

What Are The Advantages To Wearing A Wave Cap or DuRag To Bed?

When the waves are first dressed with the appropriate grease or pomade, the wave cap will help to hold the waves in place during sleep and will help maintain the pattern.

To get a tighter wave pattern some wavers do the following:

  • Wear more than one wave cap at a time.  This may include wearing a tighter wave cap that fits close to the head and then wearing a looser cap on top of the first one.
  • Some wavers will "borrow" a pair of their sister or mother's brand new pantyhose and cut the lets off.  The remaining panty part makes an excellet and cheap wave cap that will tightly hold waves in place during sleeping.
  • Stocking caps can also be used but unless they fit tightly, they will come off during sleep.

What are the Disadvantages to wearing a wave cap/durag to bed?

If they are not tied on tightly enough, they may loosen or completely come off in the middle of the night from tossing & turning in bed and then the wave pattern will not be as deeply set.

If the wave cap is tied too tightly or if a cap is worn with an elastic band around the front and not ties, there is a risk of developing forehead welts or marks.

How to eliminate morning forehead welts or marks?

Usually they can be rubbed out with the fingers but it is also possible that if they are too strongly developed that ice will help to soften the welts.  They do fade with time throughout the day.

How to avoid welts?

  • Wear a durag with a tie that allows a looser fit although there is a risk of looser wave pattern
  • Place a strip of soft cotton underneath the rim of the wave cap or durag where the welts or marks normally form and this should help prevent the recurrance of welts.

Question....what is the difference between a "bald fade" and a "near bald fade?"  How do either impact the formation of 360 Waves? This will be covered in a future faq.
