I am a 41 yr. old female who experienced hair thinning since 1998. I would use products trying to cover it. The only thing is it would wash out with shampoo. I looked at a magazine article recommending top doctors. I flew to NYC and was encouraged to see a specialist who deals with hair loss. He took a look at my scalp and when I returned home, his secretary made an appointment for Aug. 2004. I had to have blood work done and was given instructions on what to do/not do. The day of surgery you are encouraged to eat breakfast and wash your hair. You are instructed to wear a button down shirt and have a scarf. Since I was by myself it was recommended I stay at a hotel with 24 hr. room service. The doctor cut some hair from the side and back. This is used for the transplant. It is cut up into tiny pieces. Your scalp is numbed. It took about 5 hrs. or so. Someone walked me back to my hotel. I returned the next morning to have the bandages removed. I was given several days worth of pills to help with the swelling. It takes 9 months to see the whole cosmetic effect. If you have any questions or are considering this procedure, let me know.
