QuoteReplyTopic: Penelope Cruz nearing her best Posted: April 05 2005 at 10:14am
Penelope Cruz seems to have been growing out her hair from various ugly cuts for years now. At the Sahara bash, she was showing her crowning glory off to good effect--and we can see that she's almost back to her goddess like best. Some women just really need to have very long luxuriant locks!!!

So is she going to shave it all now for a Pedro Almodóvar movie like
the PR blurb said a year ago ??? Her IMDb entry shows one Pedro
Almodóvar movie in pre-production...

Was the wind blowing or was is styled that way? I think her hair looks nice longer like that, but not too wild about the way it looks in the photos. I'm just hoping it was a windy day and that her hair dresser wasn't going for the '80s retro "big hair" look.

And the problem with the '80s retro "big hair" look would be...? Hey, it's back in (think Kate Beckinsale) and I, for one, really don't have a problem with that at all.

Well, um... 6" high bangs? 3 cans of ozone-destroying Aqua-net
hairspray used every week? Hours and hours spent with a curling
iron, blow-dryer and gels and mousses, each day? Frequent
(ob)noxious perms?
As far as the look... maybe some people
are (still) fans of it. But the processing of acquiring the look was a royal PITA.

Well, I'm not talking mall hair, with the giant frozen claw of bangs. I was thinking big, full, and, usually, curly/wavy hair. More Kelly LeBrock or Elizabeth Shue than Melanie Griffith in "Working Girl". Which is why I suggested the recent looks of Kate Beckinsale as an example.
And just because it takes some effort, does that make it bad? And do you think those styles required that much more effort and product than the smooth, flatironed styles of recent years?
Or are you just prejudiced toward that natural, long, hippie-lookin' hair? <- Note the emoticons indicating tongue-in-cheek humor, he added, hoping to avoid knee-jerk reactions from folks OTHER than Dave.

Don't believe that either Penelope Cruz or Kate Beckinsale have 'big hair'. For me 'big hair' is 'Dynasty', 'Dallas', 'Knot's Landing' and similar programs from the eighties. These were puffed up bouffant styles, usually not much below shoulder length, but blown out with laquer and solutions to appear voluminous. Kate and Penelope's hair really is voluminous. By the way, in her home country of England, Kate Beckinsale was known for about 5 years as the girl with the short pixie cut. She sure grew it out with a vengeance!

Still looking very nice in Japan today, where she was promoting her new film, "Sahara". However, I'm pretty sure that she's made a visit to a hairdresser over the last couple of days, who's been snipping away a little at those goddess like tresses. Better before, but still very nice, IMO. Hope she leaves it to grow for a while now.
