i didn't have much luck with clipins - my hair is REALLY thick and so it would just slip out...it didn't feel secure at all.

i did my shrinkie install today...this was my third shot at it...and today was definitely the most successful.  right now, i'm not sure HOW i feel about it...it certainly is a switch to see hair!  I think if i didn't get silky straight and got more of a natural wave, it would have blended a bit better w/ my own hair.  i guess i figured my hair was straighter than it really is.
has someone been swimming in the shallow end of the gene pool again?

From my experience the clips only take a small amount of hair to hold them.  I prefer to put my clips in when my hair is wet just because it is easier for me.  When my hair is dry the clips are harder to work with because stray hairs always get caught in them.  When I put my clips in I choose the place where I want them to go and then I twirl that section into a ropelike piece and then clip the clip to it.  My favorite clips are the ones that Kristen sells from HairCandy and you would want to buy the Med. size.  The clips have a silicone backing that prevents them from slipping.  If you want, buy a couple clips and see if they work for you, if so then buy the hair.  Good Luck!

Would you be able to wear the clip-in for very slippery hair? Would it fall out easily? My hair is very slippery and baby fine and I am presently trying different methods to give my hair fullness. I am a newbie who has been following this forum for about two months and I don't want to ask too many questions that have probably been answered in another post. This site is very informative and I am very grateful to you all.

I LOOOOOOOOVE my clip-in also.  For me I feel that my clip-in ( I wear one piece on the bottom) is part of my hair even though I have to take it out at night (or whenever I feel like it).  When I wash it I feel like I am washing a part of my hair and I take very good care of it just like I do my own hair.  It takes me about 1 minute to put it in and it is part of my beauty routine.  It is almost like putting on a really good bra It helps you where you want to be helped!

I made a clip in for a friend who has never had hair any one would envy. I made it for her to wear for fun and called a week later to see how she liked it. She said she hated not waking up with her beautifull hair. Can I sleep in it, do I have to take it out!! She had become a hair adict. Thats what I call my clients and myself!! Two weeks later shrinkys were in her head and eaven though I warned her that her very fine hair may not do well and I will be watching her closely she says I am never taking them away from her!!!! So I guess there is a diferance. Her husband has taking to smacking her on the bum when she goes by! She holds me responsible should anothere child come about!!!!

thank you so much girls!!  i know its a pain in the ass to answer question after question from newbies so i appreciate you not getting frustrated with all my questions.  And metalgirl thank you so much for replying!  and wonderful advice too jenny i am going to take my shrinkies out and do the clip-ins...i dont think its so much about the installing *because i am getting a lot better at it* but the fact that i dont want to be committed to something and i'm still trying to figure out what synthetic hair is best for me..i like the ph a lot but its so different from my own hair that i think of it as foreign wheres the wawa is so much more like my own hair.  I think this will be a much easier way to test drive different kinds of hair to find what makes me happy and then maybe go for a more permanent later on if i choose.  thank you for helping me make up my mind : )

LuckieDuckies,

I have worn almost every extension type,  and have been doing the clip in thing for about 3 years or so.  I love my clip ins!  It's so much more confortable sleeping, and when I work out I don't get sweat all over that hair, not to mention the pain of daily washing and drying a whole head of extensions.  I wash my clip ins about every 3-4 days, set in velcro rollers and dry overnight, and put them in in the morning.

I can put them in very fast, in about 10 minutes, and since the hair is precurled, I just fix the top layer of my own hair that covers them and I'm good to go.

I'm also happy to report that I have not had any damage from them, even wearing them almost daily.

It's fast and easy, and I give it a 'thumb's up'

If you're feeling this unsure, I think you should try the clip-ins. :)

Clip ins sort of divorce you from your hair...you don't have the same 'relationship' to clipped in hair as you do when it's attached to your head. When I had extensions in, I felt as if it were my hair (and it was - I paid for it!!) - I had to take care of it, assess its condition, deal with styling it, and I had my hands in it constantly. Clip ins...well, not so much.

But you're not crazy with regard to your feelings about your install, tho. It's frustrating doing it yourself the first times. It doesn't turn out like you want, it's awkward, you don't know what works and what doesn't - it's a pain! But if you stay committed, you'll get good. There are several women who are complete DIYers and their hair looks amazing! But I bet if you asked, they'd say it took practice and trial and error.

I don't like clips, but when it's all you can do, you just do. I'd take installed hair any any day.

So here i am sitting with my head half full of shrinkies and of the countless hours it took me to get them pre-tipped, the first roundabout with extendtubes that was awful *i do declare that was all my fault tho because i didnt have a clue about how to use that long comb but finally figured it out so my sectioning was horrible*...and i look at my half full head of hair and i really like it but i really like my own hair too, i just wish it was longer at times or thicker but how i do like it *in general* and about how scared i am that these shrinkies are going to hurt it.. so my question is after all this ruckus and money spent on in would i be crazy to just do clip-ons after all? the more i think about it the more its appealing to not have to sleep on shrinkies at night or if i could choose to do  just my real hair or my fake hair any day of the week.  sorry for this long long speech but somebody tell me im not crazy! and are people successfully happy with thier fake hair without having to glue it on to their head?  just using the clip ons?
