I`m not sure there is a proper method to measure. I read somewhere that some long hair guru (possibly George Michael of New York City) measures from the top of the forehead straight back to the middle of the back. But that didn`t make sense to me, because unless the hair was combed straight back that wouldn`t be measuring the actual length of the hair.
You should probably choose a way to measure and stick with it consistently, to be sure you are comparing "apples to apples" each time you measure.
I measure my wife`s hair after each trim. I always measure from the middle of the back of her head down the middle of her back, to keep track of progress. We chose that spot to measure because she has the sides tapered a bit, and the tapering can vary from trim to trim. Also, she knows that her hair was 26 inches long down the middle of her back before cutting it short three years ago, and she wants to get back to that length.
So, anyway, I recommend that you just choose a way to measure that you can consistently repeat over time.
No experience with hair vitamins. We use basic multivitamins, drink lots of water and try to eat a balanced diet, which all seems to help our hair.
