    Posted: June 03 2005 at 9:50am

I'm hoping to get a little advise and I don't even know where to begin looking for answers ...  So I am hoping there is someone here that may have experience with alternate hair coloring.

2 days ago I dyed my hair Atomic Pink. It was the first time I have dyed my hair besides when I had dread locks so I wasn't really sure what I was doing. My first mistake was starting at 10 at night. My second mistake was only buying 1 bottle of bleach out since my hair is really long and really thick. My 3rd mistake was letting my Boyfriend do the back for me. In the end it doesn't look too bad but there is still alot of brown streaks that I would rather not have. SO i am going to let my hair have a 2 week break bleach it out again and do it over. And this time I want to do it right. So here is what i need to know

1st will it be okay to bleach my hair twice in 2 weeks. My hair is not so healthy and i don't care much about it as long as it doesn't fall out or anything

2nd I used Special Effects brand dye which is supposed to last at least 6 weeks it's a semi permanent dye. It's only been 3 days & I've washed my hair only once since I washed it after the dye job and the color is already fading out in several places leaving me with pale yellow spotting. Not to mention that color pours out everytime I shower .. shampoo or not.

When i do it the next time i would like to use a brand that will last more than a couple days and not ruin my tub ... yes i have a nice new pink tub and shower curtain lol my landlord is gana love that. Do they make a REAL PERMANENT dye or are semi permanent all you can get. What brand can I use that will last the 6 weeks it should?

and last question ... i spent nearly 40.00 on this 3 day spotted dye job. I am looking to spend close to 60.00 this next time. So if anyone know any tips for cutting my cost back that would be super too.

thanks in advance

I agree w/ the poster above, seriously. But i have some other advice. U see the reason as to why the dye came out so quickly could be that you didn't leave it in long enough. Yes, i know, these so-called semi-permanents are vegetable dyes and so u won't damage ur hair w/ them, SO you should've left it on for atleast, and i say ATLEAST two hours! If you already did this then another thing pple tend to forget w/ these colors is that they will fade fast no matter what, so u need to use color depositing or color-preserving shampoo (and conditioner if u can.) Actually Manic Panic has these fairly new color depositing shampoos for all the outrageous colors in the spectrum! That should help keep the color in longer. Well for now thats all i can think of so i'm gonna recommend a site that should be able help: www.haircrazy.co.uk

Also, if u are willing to spend the money, u should get a prof. to help you out w/ the bleaching.

Good luck!

the insturction on the bottle said 15 minuites to leave in the color so i thought by waiting 20 minuites I would be good.  I guess that could have been my biggest issue with the color washing out.  Once I get it bleached the proper way I plan on keeping a bottle around to do touch up.

As for the bleaching ... how should I go about doing that the second time.   I know you say I should go to a salon but in my town are salons are about a 1/2 a step up from a barbar shop.   I know what I did wrong the first time ... and I know how to do it correctly this time.  But will it be okay to "rebleach" in the same area's.   I have massively thick hair and the first bleach job is 'salt and pepper" like so it would be hard to pick through and just bleach the unlightened area's.  i want to just bleach my whole head again.  As Long as i know it is safe to do so than I will be good to do it again on my own I think

Um I really wouldn't reccommend bleaching the whole head again. How abt just running ur hair thru a soap cap or bleach bath? Just mix bleach w/ shampoo and leaves it on that way the less lightened strands can catch up and it'll prob lighten the rest of ur hair even more w/ out the damage of rebleaching. Altho, since u mentioned ur hair is strong u could most prob get away w/ a second bleaching, however before attempting it just try a strand test just to be sure w/ one of the lighter areas of ur bleached hair.

Even though they claim to be semipermanent, most bright colors fade noticeably every time you wash. So if you want to keep bright pink, you'll have to renew it every week or two, which will add up.

I recommend you get the rest of your hair bleached at a salon.

Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?
