Have you ever had short hair?  Is your hair damaged from coloring?  How damaged is your hair?  Have you been thinking about a short bob for a while now?  I'm just trying to figure out if this is an impulse decision or not.  Also, if you are stressed out for whatever reason, it's not wise to make a big decision like cutting your hair.  Wait until you're not stressed, and then make decisions.

How much do you like having long hair?  I think healthy hair looks best, whether it's long or short.  Change is always good, especially if your hair is very damaged, get the damaged part cut.  Your hair will always grow back if you don't like it short.

Let us know what you decide to do.

**Hair type: 2a, which is wavy and fine.
**Color: Naturally dark brown, currently dyed reddish brown.
**Length: below shoulder length

Yesterday you were just trying to get rid of damage and you got advice on how to maintain your hair length while keeping it long. Today you're saying that what you really want to do is get your hair cut into a bob OR HAVE IT ALL CUT OFF, and you want it so badly it scares you.

If you aren't really looking for advice, then just do what you were going to do anyway. But changing your mind overnight isn't a good way of making a decision about something you could regret for a long time. Get your hair conditioned, treat it right, and then decide when you get back from your vacation what you want to do.

Short haircuts are for people who want their hair short. They're not a good method for managing split ends and other damage.

Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?

i just want it all gone / I JUST WANT IT OFF

Get it cut, dare to be different. You are young and have a whole life ahead of you to grow it back if you don't like it short. And, starting from the bob, it will grow back evenly instead of the pain of growing out layers...unless you find that you love it short. Hair is only an accessory to accent your other features, you may find that there is a happy face hiding behind that hair. Go for it!

I got my long hair cut recently into a bob thinking it would be really cool and very 1920's however my hair is very thick and wavy and so it takes a lot of styling to get it right. I would recommend you get it cut so it’s long enough to tie back and if you like that you can consider getting it cut shorter. I'm growing my hair back again and I don’t think I would get it cut short again as it takes a long time to grow back. But the decision is entirely yours.

I can't believe what I just read.    Arch, is that you?

Actually, I'm inclined to believe the post is genuine.  Although I do admit the nickname is unusual, there is no requirement for people to use their actual names here...

Lol...yeah, Dave, it's me.

It's not the name that makes me think it's a troll...it's the fact that it's a new member and the wording they used.

Don't get me wrong, a chin length bob with a shaved back happens to be one of my faves...however, that look doesn't seem to be very mainstream...it is not very often that you see someone wanting that exact look...at least not in kansas...maybe so in the UK...I don't know, i'm still not convinced.  Is this look common/popular in other parts of the US or outside the US...anyone care to comment?

We all know what opinions are like...and I've got both!

I didn't get a shaved back. No way. Hey and my name doesn’t sound like a troll it's just the abbreviation of my full name which is Lorna. What's wrong with my wording?
P.s I come from the UK where lots of people have very different hair styles. Everyone in the world is an individual and we don't have to look 'mainstream' if we don’t want to.
P.s.s this post is genuine

Yes I did, though I wish it was a little longer, but it will grow in time.

Everyone seems to want to know how they will look in short hair before they cut it. Have any of you guys tried those online picture places where you can upload a pic of yourself and try on a bunch of hair styles? Are they worth it? There is one place that has a few different ones to choose from called  http://www.hair-styles-and-haircuts.com/ Has anyone tried these ones? I don't know if I should try doing it. Thanks

OK I'm officially confused.  The original poster was hairlove age 18.  Lawn age 14 replied with some advice.  Now Lawn is telling us how her haircut went.  Are Lawn and hairlove the same person?  Will she lose another 4 years in her next incarnation and be only 10?

No hairlove and lawn are different people. I'm now 15. How can you get confused?

Don't take it personally about the confusion, I was confused too.

By Phil Collins.

"Lawn" and "hairlove" both admit being from the UK.

The IP Addresses trace to different ISP's, but they are not geographically far from each other.  So it is possible that they are the same person - or not.
