QuoteReplyTopic: Worse Form of heat? Posted: July 04 2005 at 4:10am
What do you girls think is the worse form of heat and frequency? I blow dry my hair straight almost every 2-3 weeks. Has anyone found blowdrying that often to be damaging?
I think any form of heat when done frequently is damaging to hair. But u said that u blowdry ur hair straight every 2-3 weeks, that sounds very reasonable to me. If u do it everyday, now that could be very damaging and can fry ur hair. I use a cermanic flat iron, but I lowered the temperature because I found that it was burning my hair. So u might want to try lowering ur blow dryer heat temperature on ur dryer or reduce blowdrying ur hair often (i.e. once or twice a month). Also, using a heat protector helps to minimize damage
1 more day until next touch-up
5 more months until bra-strap length

I agree. I think any heat to your hair is not good, but blowdrying 1 out of 2-3 wks is not a terrible thing. Also, alway using a heat protectant is a great idea and minimizes damage to your hair.
I agree with Jesuscrist#1, any form of heat is damaging if used too much, but it dosen't sound like you're over doing it. You might want to try air drying partially and blow drying after so you arent using so much heat. And yes, a heat protectant would definitely help.
I go to a stylist to blow dry so I assume their dryers are stronger/hotter than home blow dryers...they use wrapping lotion before hand...is that similar to a heat protectant? Probably not...but I figure until I am 100% natural and my hair is a little longer the heat will have to do for now.
Also as far as blow drying, how would you know that the heat in one sitting is too much?...for example the sizzling sound during pressing used to get me nervous like my hair was actually being fried (not sure if that is actually true or not but I thought so) Any blow drying warning signs?

I've heard Turn Up The Heat by Beyond The Zone is supposed to be pretty good.(lots of rave about it on another hair board) You can purch it @ Sally's BS. I've yet to try it, but is on my list of next products.

Well, for me it's when I have the blowdyer on for a long time and my scalp gets really hot and it hurts. That means it's been on too long or the temperature is too high. Whenever I'm at the salon, however, I'm under a sitting dryer and it doesn't hurt me. My stylist uses Wild Growth Oil. This works well w/ blowdying. As for the ceramic iron I've heard that if u get a paper towel and put the iron on it and u see a singe, that means it's too hot for your hair. Maybe it's similar for a blowydyer? But u'll know if it's too hot for ur hair if it feels too hot.
