I leave a little hair in between each bond because if by chance any hairs are lost in an extension process you wouldn't want a huge row of missing hair.... not that is very probable of happening but say you lose a couple hairs on the outer sides of the bond, if they are right next to another bond that also lost some of the side hairs you will get a little bald spot. I rarely see it happen with proper installation but it's something to think about. I don't leave a ton of hair between the bonds, maybe just 1/4" and it's worked out very well.
